Mariel Grey | 125 comments I'm a bibliophiliac (bookworm) explorer (risk-taker) with occasional tendencies toward nitpicker (critic) with a sprinkling of over-indulgence (re-reading).

message 3: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (rosybookworm) | 11 comments I am a bibliophile and a overindulger. Mostly I am a bookworm because I just love to read and the smell and feel of books is my favorite thing but I have one book that I absolutely love and I have read it more than once.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I am the bibliophilia, aka the bookworm, the nitpicker, aka the critic, and the explorer, aka the risk-taker

message 5: by Brandon (new)

Brandon (sholundil) I'm a nitpicker and over-indulger; re-reading books because I fear that I missed something and that may change my original nitpick.

Also, if it's a word, I'm a variety-spicer (As in variety is the spice of life) because I like to read over a wide canvas. Fiction, Non-fiction, classics, genre, Comic-books and many others all feature on my shelve.

William Stuart (thegemstonechronicles) | 10 comments I think I fit into many of the categories. I don't consider myself a book snob or a nitpicker, though!

sonya marie madden | 441 comments I sometimes bite off more than i can chew, but i am a bookworm

message 8: by Anne (new)

Anne Wright | 4 comments I just love books and read all the time, I read fro many reasons, entertainment, relaxation, love of a good book, to laugh and to cry, to get to sleep and to fill in the dark moment in the middle of the might when I have woken to a bad dream. I love to read.

message 9: by Mickey (new)

Mickey (mickeyann5) | 3 comments I would have to say I am a bookworm. I have books in just about every room of my house.

message 10: by Arushi (new)

Arushi (arushi1) | 21 comments The nitpicker, explorer and bookworm.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

I am the Bookworm and the Risk-Taker. I love every genre, and hop back and forth between them all the time. I also can't go a day without reading a chapter....or ten. ;)

message 12: by Hermon (new)

Hermon (aulanah) | 1 comments I am the type of reader that reads ALL genre and reserves judgement until the end.

Jim Vuksic | 96 comments If such a category exists, I believe I would fall under that of Avid/Casual Reader.

I love reading books and prefer it to watching television, listening to the radio or playing games. Any genre, as long as it it technically well-written and entertaining.

That said; I have four adult children and four grandchildren whom I visit, or am being vistied by, often, enjoy a fairly active social life, and am prone to hop in the car for a spontaneous road trip now and then.

As a result, it usually takes me anywhere from a week to a month to finish a book.

Julie Drucker (softkittykeeper) | 5 comments I just joined your group. You have the right attitude toward books and readers. I don't just stick to one genre, never have, I love to read and will read just about anything. According to your blog I am a Bibliophile, which I already knew since I have my own library and can never seem to have enough books. I am also a Nitpicker, I even keep a personal book journal so I remember which books I have read-it's hard to remember after so many years. I am an Explorer, I am always looking for that next book to add to my collection and I am some what of an elitist as I prefer the printed copy, but, I have recently tried the e-reader app on my tablet and it's not bad, but I tend to forget how many books I have put on it because it isn't like the piles and shelves of books I have at my disposal every day and having an e-reader is a quick way to get hold of a book especially an older one you can't find elsewhere. Thanks for letting me share.

message 15: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 441 comments Julie I also list the books I want to read. I am picky about what I read

message 16: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 21 comments I read daily and sometimes for hours on end. Thank goodness I'm retired ;). I am somewhat picky about what I read, though I read all genres. I love historical fiction, some urban fantasy (Fever Fae - Karen Marie Moning), some of the classics. Loved "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter",...it's my all time favorite. Read most of Stephen King's later books but really enjoyed the "Dark Tower" series - did not care for his early works at all. I read a lot of crime, mysteries (mostly British), and some contemporary authors. I download to my Nook HD and never miss a chance to read.

message 17: by Lori (new)

Lori Hi, I am new to this group. I read all kinds of genres but seem to gravitate towards stories that are real life that I am able to relate to in some way.

message 18: by Lucy (new)

Lucy (mesdupmoi) | 334 comments The Bibliophilia, aka the bookworm
The Over-indulger, aka the re-reader
The Explorer aka the risk-taker (btw in this section you spelled 'comfort' as 'comfit' - sorry to point it out!)

I'm a bit of them all, tbh, but those three are the most prominent in my attitude :)

message 19: by Ash (new)

Ash | 9 comments I am without a doubt a bookworm, always have been, always will be. As much as I hate to admit it I am a bit of a book snob, I just hate reading poorly written books & watching generic books continue to be at the top.of most best seller lists when there are so many other books out there that are well-written & of good quality. However, that doesn't mean I am above reading a typical chick-lit book sometimes. :)

I agree that many of the top sellers are not quality books, Ash, but that does not stop me from reading everything and anything I can get my hands on, searching for the diamond in the rough! Those diamonds are still out there.

message 21: by Ash (new)

Ash | 9 comments You're right Kathy, in façt I have found some of those diamonds in the rough you speak of. I guess that's just part of being a bit of a book snob, it is hard for me to read what everyone else is reading, usually b/c mass media has convinced them to read it. I would certainly rather be stuck with a generic bestseller than no book at all.

message 22: by Ash (new)

Ash | 9 comments Btw, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is one of my favorite books of all time. I also am the loving owner of a Nook HD, but I am afraid it is slowly dying on me. :(

message 23: by Al (new)

Al | 52 comments I've been a reader all my life and I read all sorts of things: currently a murder mystery, a book on the neurology of the brain, a book about an ancient Greek naval battle, two books about the Civil War, several great mysteries in translation, a good mystery in Spanish, and a book that's a blast about current politics. I may not finish some of them. I'm picky and not young and have used up most of my patience.

I'm tired of books that are downers. There's plenty bad news around without searching out more. I'm tired of books that are sappy and predictable, books that are too long for what's in them, pretentious books that are full of tedious, self-aware, overindulgent, "serious" fiction, books that "everybody's" reading, and books where anything can happen because it's a fantasy and the author can simply pull a rabbit out of a hat at will.

I like a story with absorbing characters. I like a story I can get lost in. I like stories that are "different," that have unexpected surprises and don't click down to the end using a tired formula. I like a story which I'm sorry to finish and wish there were more. I treasure a (good) series where there IS more. I like (and often review) indie novels which are diamonds in the rough and could use the encouragement.

This topic got me going. I'm sorry!

Carla Coon (carlacoon) | 14 comments Ash wrote: "I am without a doubt a bookworm, always have been, always will be. As much as I hate to admit it I am a bit of a book snob, I just hate reading poorly written books & watching generic books contin..."

Gotta agree with Ash - I work hard on my novels and I'm flummoxed when I read some best selling novel that is poorly written. It seems so unfair.

message 26: by Ash (new)

Ash | 9 comments Thank Carla, always nice to have someone agree with you, lol. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for you as a writer to see all this mainly generic fluff at the top of best-seller lists, making tons of money. I used to write a lot more than I do now, so I know how difficult it us to pour your heart & soul into the words you put on paper. True writing like that comes from, once again, the heart and the soul. I'm sorry but I can see neither in @least 90% of the generic best sellers I somehow managed to read. It's frustrating enough for me as a reader to witness this, I can only imagine how much more so it must be for you as a true writer. Just keep writing real things, not that I think you would, but never give up your hard work and sell out like I'm afraid so many popular author's have done. Not all, by any means, but unfortunately there are always those, especially in creative fields, who do sell out for money and fame. I find it rather sad. I wish you nothing but the best with your writing.

message 27: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I think I would consider myself more than a bookworm. I love, love, love to read, so I'll read anything:
labels on boxes, instructions on someone else's pamphlet, a dirty piece of paper on the ground--if it has words, I'll read it.

If I'm watching a television program and the characters are in a room with a wall of books behind them, I faze out on what they're talking about and wonder what's inside those pages behind them, or I try to read the titles if the camera gets close enough. When I was four, I read an entire shorthand book out of curiosity.

I'm sad, I know.

message 30: by Tess (new)

Tess | 1 comments I am more of the adventurous type, a risk-taker. I cannot stay in one genre for too long. I got to have a taste of different types of books to satisfy me. I love to read for as long as I can remember...I have to read and I read anything. :)

message 31: by Ramla Zareen (last edited Mar 09, 2015 01:41AM) (new)

Ramla Zareen Ahmad | 36 comments Definitely a 'Bibliophilia', as well as an 'Over-indulger'...! Lolz :-)

I LOVE to read, mostly fiction, as it's a source of immense happiness for me, and do so everyday.

Plus I very much enjoy re-reading my favourite books several times.

Moreover, with so many books out there, and not as much time as I would have liked, to read, I can be at times a kind of an 'Elitist' as well.

That is, I usually like to do a detailed research on the author's writing style and his or her books/series before getting involved in reading.

Anyway, I found the blog post very interesting ...and am thoroughly enjoying this discussion :-)

message 34: by John (new)

John Johnson I am part Bibliophilia and part Explorer. The bibliophilia in me reads every day through my lunch and most mornings before work or with a cup of coffee on weekends. I have been doing this for so many years I do not believe I could stop even if I wanted to. And I am also an Explorer. If any subject catches my interest, I am likely to buy and read as many books on the subject as I can find before I eventually move on to something new. From my seventeen books on horse racing or thirteen books on poker, to my numerous books on running, or my collection of writings by America's founding fathers, or my collection of classics, I have read from many different genres and I love it.

message 35: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Jr | 4 comments I think I fit in more than one category, for sure, but tend to be more of an explorer. I do like to step outside my comfort zone, and see what else is out there. I do not feel I want to be defined by just one type of book.

message 36: by Jean (new)

Jean Hall I am sometimes a snob about novels. But I like a good page-turner too which can be awful as a work of art but delicious. I would also describe myself as a bookworm but bibliophile sounds too fancy. I was a comparitive literature major in college many moons ago. My quest for exploration is found in non-fiction research. I hope everyone is enjoying their genre today. I am reading a children's ebook.
