theDuke | 6492 comments Remaining themes:

212. 'Barbed wire Jockeys' - songs sung in a falsetto voice (doesn't have to be male, just a high register for at least one line) - Brass Neck
213. Tickle Those Ivories - songs that feature a piano - Helen
214. More cowbell! Any track which features afore said percussive instrument. Anyone not sure about what a cowbell sounds like, listen to the beginning of Forbidden Lovers by Be Bop Deluxe - it's that stunted tonk-tonk sound - Fishy Jim
215. Wildcard Round 7

Hello there.

First up, we could do with some new theme nominations soon, we're down to 5 left including this one. The link for the noms thread is posted above, thank you.

On with the next one then, and this should be straightforward for most of us i think. I still own the first record i ever bought...but it's up to you lot if it's a good 'un not! :)

Anyhoo, Sera wants you to pick....

'Any song from the first album/single you bought with your own money (or want to admit to buying)'

Noms and links is the usual fashion, thanking you kindly.

Have a good week folks, looks like it getting a bit nicer weatherwise.

theDuke | 6492 comments As a then burgeoning 11yo rocker, i wasn't taken by the pop band likes of Duran Duran, Aha, Culture Club & such like.., was more into the bands my dad liked. Hard to belive it now, but i was nuts about this band, and still have all the records of theirs, bought at the time of release. This 1985 album featured two songs on it that i couldn't stop playing at the time; the title track...and this one, of which i first bought the cassette single, before buying the album. I played this cassette over and over...and over, till it was knackered! It has to be:

Easy Easy - Scotland World Cup Squad 1974

On a 78 in 1957 for my big cabinet wind-up gramophone.
Bought a Dansette on HP the following year when I was 18 with my dad acting as guarantor and my first LP was either Belafonte - Calypso or Rimsky-Korsakov - Scheherazade (still a favourite). I only ever bought my own records, my parents wouldn’t have thought of it and my sister at 6 years younger didn’t have any money, knew nothing about records and wouldn’t have gone into town on her own either!

theDuke | 6492 comments Well..wasn't that a cracker! :)

And possibly, a new Goodread's highest score record achieved for a winning song.

So..the song that stormed away with it then..is of course, the closing track to the classic album; Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band....A Day In The Life by The Beatles, runs off with the Gold gong...so this week's winner is Tim. Well done that man!

And we've a tie for 2nd and 3rd place. Both garnered 25 points apiece, they are: See Emily Play by Pink Floyd, nominated by Sussex & Spirit In The Sky by Norman Greenbaum, nominated by-Brass Neck.

After careful countback, Norman Greenbaum scored 2 max points to Pink Floyd's 1, so the silver goes to Brass Neck..and SussexWelsh picks up the Bronze.

Well done to all the winners, a bally good round all told.

But...we also have a wooden spoon too. Johnny hates Jazz..but it appears we're not so fond of his music either! :-D

So Collette gets the wooden spoon. :)
