I looked at what books you and I have in common. Although it's not a book I've read this year, John Dies at the End is incredible, you should read it. I've read it (and its sequels) multiple times over the years and they're always just as good as the first time.
The Fixes was surprisingly good for a YA novella.
The books I love usually rely heavily on the characters within, moreso than plot, so its hard to recommend things haha
