Jill Help! I am in a reading slump and need some recommendations! I have started several books this weekend only to put them down with a sigh. Nothing is holding my interest which is very unlike me. Usually I have five or six books going at one time. Any great suggestions? Maybe I am having this issue because I am waiting with baited breath for the release of the new Tana French book tomorrow......lol. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami

I'm halfway through with this and can't wait to get back to it.

Jill,

I perused your lists (read and to read) and have two suggestions:

The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America is a true story, that reads like fiction, of the Chicago Exposition in 1893. It is a mystery. My book discussion group read this several years ago and I believe we all loved it.

The second book is one on your TBR Unbroken A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption read it before the movie comes out in December. Louis Zamperini is an inspiriation.

Elizabeth A (kisiwa) | 193 comments I think of slumps as your mind informing you that it needs time to digest whatever has been read recently. When your mind has completed digestion, it lets you know that it ready for more. Tried and true options for me involve outdoor walks while listening to my fave podcasts or music, and reading a graphic novel or some non-fiction.

Victoria (vicki_c) | 367 comments I just saw this thread today and I am having the same problem! I have a number of library books and a bunch of unread Kindle and hard copy books and I can't seem to maintain interest in anything I've started. Must be The Bone Clocks effect since I finished that a few days ago.

Cora Lewis | 16 comments After looking through some of the books you've read I would recommend Howl's Moving Castle (Howl's Moving Castle, #1) by Diana Wynne Jones . It's a fun fantasy tale that is a pure delight to read.

Jessy (jessycfischer) | 25 comments I just finished Damned and couldn't put it down. Funny book with a new concept. Another person I can always pick up and keep my attention is Christopher Moore

Victoria (vicki_c) | 367 comments Well I settled on Sycamore Row since it was available from the library and seemed like a good diversion from the more literary things. I stopped reading Grisham years ago because I found his books boring, but this may be just the thing to break my slump.

Denise (deniseg53) | 221 comments I have been in a strange slump for a month. I hate it! I haven't stopped reading, but I feel like I've really slowed down.

Sarah Bramlett | 15 comments Sometimes I just get in a slump because I've read a lot in a short amount time. Normally instead of finding another book to try to cure my slump I just let the slump take its course. I crochet or watch netflix (how I discovered some great shows too) and normally after a few days (sometimes after a mini marathon on netflix) I crave books again.
