Jill,
I perused your lists (read and to read) and have two suggestions:
The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America is a true story, that reads like fiction, of the Chicago Exposition in 1893. It is a mystery. My book discussion group read this several years ago and I believe we all loved it.
The second book is one on your TBR
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption read it before the movie comes out in December. Louis Zamperini is an inspiriation.
