Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Completed #16 (GR newsfeed) - The Perfect Nanny by Leila Slimani. I was really enjoying this book. Good writing, interesting characters, loved how the story unfolded, and then it just stopped. No real resolution, ugh. Good effort, but I need a conclusion. 3.5 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Completed #12 (place want to visit) - How to Hang a Witch by Adriana Mather. I really enjoyed this book a lot! The book is incredibly descriptive with interesting characters and a nicely paced plot. Being in Salem while I read it helped too! My only criticism was that the dialogue got a bit muddied at the end. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

Jennifer | 799 comments Update:

*Completed* "Wheel of Format" - Macbeth. Because I haven't read any kind of play in years (possibly decades), I decided to read a play for this prompt. And because I don't tend to read poetry either, a play written in verse seemed especially appropriate. I was also curious about this particular play, and a paperback copy (with notes to help with some of the Elizabethan English) was readily available.

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #1 (GR Choice) - The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang. I'm thoroughly impressed with this author. She sought to tell her truth and present a character that reflects the struggles of so many women. It's steamy and delightful! Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #10 (debut) - Montauk by Nicola Harrison. I really enjoyed this book! The writing was clear and conveyed the beauty of Montauk (which is going on my list of book-location vacation destinations!). I liked the characters and the slice of life presented of the late '30s. My only criticism was the character's reflections at the end. I received this book as a free giveaway in exchange for my honest review. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

Don’t worry - there are no real rules here. It’s a great idea to list the ones you already read during the summer months, and you can certainly choose your own end-date.

Hope you find some great books for the other prompts.
Happy reading 📚

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #15 (translated book) - Gigi, Julie de Carneilhan, and Chance Acquaintances: Three Short Novels by Colette. I thoroughly enjoyed my first Colette stories! Gigi is short and sweet and very similar to the film and stage adaptations (which makes sense as Colette participated in writing the adaptation). Julie was a bit boring and melodramatic in the middle for my tastes. But Chance Acquaintances was delightful - full of acerbic observations and an independent woman striking out alone with only her cat. Definitely worth reading! 4 stars

This was the book that inspired the famous musical "Cats" and, more recently, a fantasy film slated for release in December 2019. If you love cats (or "Cats"), are a fan of TS Eliot, or both, you should read this.

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #17 (continental drift) - Eighty Days: Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland's History-Making Race Around the World by Mathew Goodman. This book was fascinating! While I was familiar with Nellie Bly, it was due to her investigative reporting, and not her trip around the world. The history was related with clear progress and along the way provided insight into the world as the two women traveled. My only criticism was the author failed to interpret the women's situations once they returned home in light of the constant sexism they endured. Other than that, this was a great read! Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments I've decided that instead of stressing myself out to finish a challenge that never provided an end date, I'm going to take a cue from my Florida weather. It's hot as blazes outside and we're still getting our summer afternoon storms. So, for us, summer still reigns, and I have more time to finish my final four books:)
