Steven Tyler (steventyler) | 30 comments I always dislike speaking about my writing career because it has not been filled with lots of accolades. My first book, One Little Lie, was published in December and it is the result of twenty-two years of effort; first in screenwriting and now as a novel writer. You could help me overcome the lack of accolade phobia by reading my book and giving a "Good Job!" on Goodreads. It really is a good book. Thanks.

Alex Dolan (alexdolan) Nice to meet you all!

I'm a newbie, releasing my first book, The Euthanist, in June. I'm represented by the Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency and published by Diversion. I'm based on in the San Francisco Bay Area, but sent a while in Boston and New York. I was a touring musican for a while, and when I was six, I went door-to-door to try and raise money to erase the national deficit. It didn't turn out the way I hoped.

Ok, so, hi - I'm a writer and columnist. Brilliant to meet you all.
For as long as I can remember, I've always written fiction. Aged 5, I re-wrote Thumbelina (with paint & scribbles); at 14, won a competition for a book jacket and blurb design judged by Quentin Blake; at 27, was long-listed for a BBC Talent script for Casualty; and at 34, was short-listed for a Guardian travel writing competition. In February 2013, I was awarded third place in the Wotton-Under-Edge Arts and Literature Festival Short Story Competition.
I studied at the University of Salamanca – the same city where my protagonist of The Spider in the Corner of the Room, Dr Maria Martinez, hails from.
I write for the Gloucestershire Gazette, commenting on politics and society issues, and have been a columnist for the Citizen and Echo newspapers and Weekend magazine, commenting on popular culture.
Previously, I've also been a Marketing Manager, Head of Copywriting for an advertising agency, plus a Teaching Fellow at the University of Bristol. Other jobs include being a chalet maid and a burger snack bar server - both of which, it's safe to say, I sucked at.
And finally, I was born in Dublin, I now live in Gloucestershire with my family.

David Jarrett (davidrj) Hello all --

My name is David Rheem Jarrett. I always include my middle name in all correspondence because I Googled David Jarrett once and the first thing that popped out was a semi-pornographic site! Use of the "Rheem" prevents this from happening.

I grew up in California, had a very "checkered" educational career with a couple long absences during which I worked doing manual labor, but finally graduated from University of California Medical Center school of Dentistry. I moved to Reno, Nevada, practiced dentistry for 35 years, raised a family with my wife of 52 years, and now write novels.

I love to read, and started writing at an early age. I promised myself I would eventually become a novelist, so I'm fulfilling that promise. I have one e-book published, LAST STRAW, that was the Psychological Thrillers BOTM for last August, and one work in progress that I hope to finish soon.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Mark Rubinstein (markrubinstein) | 1 comments Hi Everyone!

I was born in born in Brooklyn, New York. My love of sports led me to read sports fiction, and soon I became a voracious reader, developing an enduring love for all kinds of novels. I graduated from New York University with a degree in business admin, later joined the army and served as a field medic tending to paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division. I was so taken with these experiences that after my discharge, I re-entered NYU as a premed student and developed an interest in psychiatry, discovering in that specialty the same thing I realized in reading fiction: every patient has a compelling story to tell. I became a board-certified psychiatrist practicing in New York City.

My novels include Mad Dog Justice (2014), Love Gone Mad (2013) and Mad Dog House (2012), which was named a Finalist for the 2012 ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Award (Thriller & Suspense). My first novella, The Foot Soldier, received the Silver medal for Popular Fiction in the Benjamin Franklin Awards for 2014. Mad Dog Justice (September 2014), tagged as a "pulse-pounding tale of post-modern paranoia," is a finalist for the ForeWord Book of the Year Award. My 2nd novella, Return to Sandara, was published on October 17, 2014 and my next novel, Lovers' Tango, arrives June 2015.

As a special Reader Appreciation Bonus, I have just reduced the price of Mad Dog House to $0.99 on Amazon for Kindle. http://amzn.to/1HUpyGq

There's nothing like a good thriller!

Ryan Hill (httpwwwaugusthillauthorcom) | 4 comments Hey Everyone--My name is Ryan Hill and I have a debut novel out called Barking Madness. It's a YA Thriller. It's dark with sarcastic humor. I spent my senior year in high school writing it and have just self published. I'm a freshman in college majoring in English and have been writing for a while so it makes sense. I'm currently working on my 2nd book. My favorite genres are scifi, thrillers, and horror.

A.E. Sawan | 3 comments Neighbors killed in drive-by shootings and families slain in the dead of night left a tremendous mark on me and became the impetus for my book released early this year entitled Terrorist University.

“I never wanted to write about this. I never wanted to talk about this,” I was 12 when the war started and I ran from it. later I chased it. This is a brief story, not sure I explained myself fully. Have a question? ask me.

Theresa Moretimer (tmoretimer) | 71 comments Hello everyone and nice to meet you all. My name is Theresa Moretimer and write thrillers. In my TO HIDE from DEATH series, I based the heroine on myself and what I had gone through in domestic violence. I had years of therapy: medical (I had to learn how to breathe again), physical, and emotional. My initial writing began as part of my therapy to help me get through nearly dying. My doctors, family and friends read what I wrote and told me I needed to write a book. This has turned into a series and when you've become disabled, you find that you like the extra income lol. I donate 20% of all profits from these novels to domestic violence non-profits to help other victims attain the help they need.

I also speak at colleges and some businesses on the warning signs and prevention of domestic violence. If I prevent one case, I have saved someone.

S.J.I. Holliday (sjiholliday) Hi everyone :) I'm Susi, and under the name S.J.I. Holliday, I write psychological thrillers - my first - Black Wood - was published last month and I'm currently writing the next, which is kind of a follow-up, even though I never really planned to do a series! I'm originally from Edinburgh, now based in London, and I'm still fitting writing around my day job (where I work as a statistician for pharmaceutical companies, analysing clinical trials). I've not really used GR much yet, so I'm looking forward to getting involved in some discussions :)

Alan Veale (alanveale) | 5 comments Pleased to meet you all over the ether... My name is Alan and my debut novel came out in October 2013, so apologies for the late arrival on this site! I live in Lancashire, England but my first book is based in Glasgow, as it was inspired by a true murder story that happened there in the nineteenth century. I'm currently writing a second novel (NOT a thriller), but I admit that crime and mystery thrillers are my preferred reading material. I've just finished reading all Lee Child's books, and would be happy to hear of any other recommendations from members of this group?

Joseph Cognard (jcognard) | 5 comments Hi,
My name is Joseph Cognard. Been a member for a while as well as a struggling author. I struggle with sales, the English language, actually any language, as well as those other little things like drinking....
I also struggle with genre, have one work that most people feel is thriller/mystery. I was writing a comedy, but hey, if some people say it's a good mystery, well then a mystery it is. My other works so far have been a YA paranormal novel and a campfire book. Though the campfire book in a strange way is intertwined with the Thriller.
The thriller/mystery/comedy, is actually a play. I often think the bigger mystery was why I would make it a play, of course presently that answer has not been found. I am currently just about to release a science fiction book just to confuse any readers who dare read more than one of my works. I also sometimes write in my day job, but that is vba code. I had a dream once that I wrote a book in code, it was really weird dream.
I do hope you get chance to check my stuff out, I think you would see it, clicking on my name as all the books are listed and reviewed often on Goodreads.

Peter Dudgeon | 5 comments Hi I'm Peter Dudgeon,
I spend half my time writing and the other half running my business (to fund my writing addiction!) I have published one novel, 'Ticket', another, 'Chance' is in 5th draft - actually I'm losing count - and a third, 'Circle - The Diary of Stella Moore' is in second draft. All are thrillers, the latter two with a supernatural twist.
I enjoy authors who draw me into their world and make me forget I'm on the sofa. If any writers do this for you, let me know! I'm looking for author/book recommendations as well as an opportunity to discuss my own published and soon-to-be-published thrillers.
Delighted to be part of the group!

Gordon Bickerstaff (gfb12345) | 30 comments Hello all, I've just recently joined this group so here is my short bio - I was was born and brought up in Glasgow, Scotland. I grew up reading Ian Fleming and John le Carré and wrote about James Bond in an answer to a question in a school English examination.

I learned and taught some biochemistry. After thirty years of teaching and research and several academic books, I put down my academic pen and took up a fiction pen.

I like to write thrillers that have a flavor of medical science. I've written three books Deadly Secrets, Everything To Lose and The Black Fox. My fourth book Toxic Minds will be out in November. I continues to live in central Scotland with my wife and I enjoy reading thrillers, walking on the hills and travelling.

I love to read thrillers but I've not - yet - written one. I was born and grew up in Manchester (England) and have a degree in geology and a certificate in archaeology to so you could say I like digging! I'm retired and my stories are about relationships between people and the effects these have on our lives. The genres vary - the latest is humour - maybe the next will be too.

John Lefevere (johnlefevere) | 2 comments Hello all - Here is my bio (a little tongue in cheek but true): John Lefevere is a retired corporate attorney whose life experiences include an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, playing golf next to the Giza Pyramids in Cairo, Egypt and recently appearing in a TV commercial. He has published professional/legal articles in the past and is transitioning to fiction, which is not as large a leap as you might think. After all, there is not much difference between the suspension of disbelief in fiction and “shading” the facts to make them more palatable to the reader in law practice. In either case, he finds the act of writing to be fun and challenging.

When not traveling, John divides his time between Virginia and the Thousand Islands, New York, where his next novel is set. He expects to publish it in the Fall of 2015. His first novel was "Better With Age: A Boomer's Tale". [I will post the novel in the Promote Your Book section]

message 133: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Oster | 7 comments Been meaning to join a group and this one seems on point for me. I have two published thrillers, The Commuter and The German Club, and am a member of the International Thriller Writers. I'll be on a panel at this year's ThrillerFest in New York in July discussing novels whose plots are ripped from headlines, as mine were. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
One author who makes that tactic work, using old headlines, is Joseph Kanon. I am having my book club read his latest, Leaving Berlin, which is set during the blacklist days right after World War II ended. But I also have really appreciated Kanon's meticulous historical research in The Good German, The Prodigal Spy, Istanbul Passage and some others I've been binge reading. My previous favorite novelist for this war era was Alan Furst, who focuses on pre-war stories of Poles, Greeks, French and others who scrambled to deal with the Nazi threat. I wonder if others are into either author. I have a few quibbles with both but generally I give them 4 stars.

My current series features a freelance hostage rescue specialist named Jonathan Grave. The 7th in that series, AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, will be released on July 1. I live in Northern Virginia, where I've lived pretty much my whole life. For as long as I can remember, I've been surrounded by folks who could never talk about what they did for a living, but by not telling, in fact told me everything I needed to know.

Groovy Lee Hello, Everyone

I've been a member for over a month, I think. But I haven't had a chance to tell you about the author side of me because writing and the French Open took up most of my time.

I go by Groovy Lee, and I've been writing since I learned how to handle a pencil. I even had a neighborhood newspaper once.

I'm new to publishing so I only have four books out so far. I write wholesome romance under my EverAfter Romance Series, suspense (only one title in that genre for now), and I have a romantic suspense coming out in august of this year.

I hope to interact with other authors and readers here. This is a very fun forum. Feel free to contact me here or at [email protected]. I'd love to hear from you.

Vickie Britton | 3 comments Hi, all,
My sister Loretta Jackson and I are veteran writers who have experimented with several genres, though most of what we write falls into the mystery and thriller category. We have over 50 published titles ranging from cozy to suspense. Our Jeff McQuede mystery series is set in Wyoming and is Hillerman style as far as the thriller range goes. We are also authors of the Ardis Cole Mystery Series, which takes place in different countries around the world and is more adventure/thriller. Most of these stories involve hidden treasure of the Maya, Inca and other ancient cultures. We also have some single title thrillers and one young adult thriller. I am excited to be a part of this group I am going to post the books of ours that I consider would be of interest to readers in this genre. Please feel free to contact me on GR if you have any questions about our books. We love to hear from readers! We have separate blogs for our works that explains our series. I hope some of you will pay them a visit. We'll be posting new stuff soon!

Steven Moore Hello to everyone,
Because I have a long and short bio on my website, I'll add some extras here just for you folks.
(1) I can't really dance, even though I have three titles with dance names in them.
(2) I celebrate the diversity in the U.S. and the world, but I think there's a special place in Hell for terrorists.
(3) My prose might deal with chaos, mayhem, and murder, but I'm really a shy, introverted, and peaceful guy.
(4) I admire strong, smart women and think the world would be better off if they were in charge.
Maybe these characteristics aren't so unusual among writer/members of this group, but they're a few not in my "official bios."
Yours in reading and writing,
Steve

Steven Moore Sean,
People can find some not so random at my website. Interesting thing about numbers: some like 5, 7, or 10. I wrote a post once called "The Eightfold Way" on eight things people shouldn't do when writing genre fiction, so 8 is another.
I couldn't come up with any more than 4 here, though, without confessing some sins. LOL.
Take care,

H.A. Raynes was inspired to write NATION OF ENEMIES by a family member who was a Titanic survivor and another who escaped Poland in World War II. Combining lessons from the past with a healthy fear of the modern landscape, this novel was born. A longtime member of Boston’s writing community, H.A. Raynes has a history of trying anything once (acting, diving out of a plane, white water rafting, and parenting). Writing and raising children seem to have stuck.

As a business consultant, I have travelled to forty countries and lived in three. And it is reading binges to break up these transits - with the likes of Clive Cussler and Jack du Brul - that inspired the writer to emerge, bringing to life the cities, characters, and history I encountered.
