jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I'm going to use this to list spaces landed on so we'll know what our tasks are.
The person in () picked that task and can't complete it.

Task/Space
1 (jaxnsmom) - Nat'l Park or monument
24 (Connie) - embarrassing cover
26 (Liz) - Romance
28 (Peggy) - shortage of water
29 (Lisa) - YA
30 (Jannene) - Jail, another team chooses the space
37 (Casceil) - snowy setting
38 (Jannene) - unread/rarely read genre

What should we call ourselves? Anyone want to volunteer for tracking, reporting, morale, bribes, spying, and anything else we might need?

message 3: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Thanks for setting up our thread jmom!

I am happy to volunteer to be our cheerleader. I enjoyed doing that during the last team toppler.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments YAY! There were lots of great pics and emoticons last time!

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments These team name suggestions are not the greatest but it's the best I could come up with at the moment. As the slogan for monopoly is 'Own it all', how about calling ourselves 'The Toppler-Oplers Own It All'? Or 'Team 4 Own It All?'

I love the emoticon!

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I've edited post 2 to list tasks we get.

message 12: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments How many books do you all think you will be able to read during the toppler? I don't think I will be able to read more than 3.

message 13: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I've generated my number. It's 37. St. Bernards? Tracking for this one looks like a nightmare. Anyone on our team good with tables or spread-sheet software? I'm not. I'm willing to work on tracking, but I don't want to be solely responsible. To the extent it can be done with lists, I'm willing to be a keeper of lists.

Back to the name problem. Team 4tune?

message 14: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I'm very good with excel. I can try to track.

38 = Luxury Tax – Read a book in a genre you haven’t read before, or one that you rarely read.

Lara | 1426 comments Hi Everyone, I spun and got 29 - Read a YA book

Since Lisa also had this number, does that mean neither of us can read YA for the challenge? Or can one read that genre for another?

You'll need to generate another number. No duplicates on the first roll.

message 33: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizvegas) | 504 comments So, am I clear...after we read our first book (which really is a task from another teammates first roll) then I roll again and move that many space from the space we are currently on? (Example I'm on space 29, my pretend next random number is 5, I would therefore now be on 34. I could either read a book for task 34, or offer it up to the team's pool of books?). If I choose the second option, then what book would I read next?

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Jannene wrote: "Task/Space

I've set up post 2 to show the tasks. I thought it would be easier to remember it's at the beginning of the thread.

With your tracking spreadsheet - will you be able to link it so we can access it? The last team Toppler, several teams used a Google spreadsheet with colors to categorize. You'll find that we like to look at them and we get a bit silly :)

message 35: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments The "Do you feel lucky, Punk?" spaces are my version of chance and community chest. I have card comments and I use the fruit machine to see which card you draw. Some of them have you move somewhere else, and some don't. If they don't, I will tell you what your card says, and then tell you to generate another number. Top Hatt3rs won 10 points when they landed on Feel Lucky!

All tasks will be worth 10 points, so don't worry about strategizing for points. This is complicated enough as it is.

Yes, you've got it. If your second number landed you on 34 and you offer it up to the team pool, then you would choose another task from that pool.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Post 2 updated through here.

message 38: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm a bit late to the team - look at you all go! I'm still back at Go "Do not collect £200" so I had better roll a number!

Unlucky for some - I got 13 - Man Brooker Prize winner. Boy am I glad I don't have to read that one! ;-)

I too am happy to keep track of things or to report - If Janenne what's to get excel-happy and post them on here I'd be happy to report things as we have read - I'm only working 2 days that week.

Loving the name!

The good thing is, it's looking like we don't have to assign all the tasks from the get go, just the first roll, then go from there once we've read that book. So we don't need to say how many books exactly we will be attempting. Am I right?

I think some serious gophering is going to be required by me to fill some of the requirements! Out of the numbers already rolled, I could fit the YA, Romance (if I can use an Urban Fantasy book for this), and rarely read genre (I could go for a short classic), and snowy setting.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I am going to have to do a lot of gophering for this toppler too! I think there are several tasks that I don't have books for.

Out of the tasks already picked, I could read Romance, Snowy Setting and Unread/ Rarely Read genre. I also have a book that would fit the Man Booker Prize Winner task.

Yes you are right, but I'm betting teams will want to get a general idea of how many books members intend to read.

Could someone shoot that bird? ☺ He is way too cheerful! I've been up most of the night with only a few naps, and I have to really get up in three hours. I hate not being able to get to sleep on Sunday nights. Hard way to start the week. I've got to go to bed now!

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Welcome to the team Peggy! Really glad you are joining us!

Last night was a bad night sleeping wise for me too. It's a pretty regular occurrence for me due to an ongoing chronic health problem. Really need to catch up with my zzzzzzzz's tonight!

message 45: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I got:

28 = Water Works – read a book set in a place where there is a shortage of water, because of geographical location or drought.

I also made a list this morning of topics I can read, could possibly read, and prefer not to read. It might not be very useful to post them all now (or would it?), but for the ones that have been already picked, I could definitely do 26 - Romance, 29 - YA and 38 - Rarely read genre. I might be able to do 1 - National Park, 24 - Embarassing cover, and 37 - Snowy area, but then I would need to dive into my TBR and see whether I happen to have something that fits.

By the way, if someone hasn't read Burial Rites or The Snow Child yet, they are both awesome books, quick reads, and set in snowy settings!

Liz (lizvegas) | 504 comments How the heck amy I supposed to get any work done today?? *le sigh*

I won't be back on here for a good 10 hours....loooong day today. I am good, at the moment for reading any of the books chosen thus far (except Snowy setting, and drought-- but im sure I could find one for these tasks, if needed.)

I have a perfect book, I've been wanting to read, that fits for #1 national park. So I can do that, if no one else has a good one.

perhaps we should just wait until everyone rolls before we divide the tasks? or should we make a list of the "good, bad, the ugly" tasks for each of our preference? am I over thinking...??

I don't think we really need to list the topics that we don't want to read or can't read. After the first roll, we can either read the topic book ourselves or offer it up to someone else in the team so I think we might be able to deal with things as and when they come. What do you all think? Would you prefer to make preference lists before we start or just take things as they come?

message 49: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I agree Lisa. It might make things overly confusing and not necessary, as we can only read what we rolled.

message 50: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I think it's best to wait as we don't know what we're going to roll on the dice (random generator) until we've read our first book. I think just list our preferences for the current roll that way we can start allocating those ones.

Welcome to our team Peggy!

If Liz has a definite for the National parks choice I reckon she should do that one as I think that will be a difficult one to fill.

I don't think I have anything for water shortage/drought.
