I have a lot of problems with queries, so please slice away at this. I'm trying to get ready for the Baker's Dozen at the end of October (hosted by Authoress at http://misssnarksfirstvictim.blogspot...).
Thanks in advance!
Genre: Adult Urban Fantasy
Logline: A woman harassed by a demon discovers its connection to her past life. Enlisting the aid of a doubting exorcist, she fights for her life--and the lives of her wife and daughter.
Query: Scarlet O’Callaghan-Harlow doesn’t have time for bullshit. Especially bullshit that comes in the form of supernatural nonsense. Rattling picture frames in her office. A large black cat stalking her in the kitchen in the dead of night. A pair of phantom eyes that follow her everywhere—except into the Catholic church she never wanted to set foot in. Thankfully, the presence of the exorcist Father Angelo also seems to keep the creature’s presence at bay, though she’s not about to tell him about the thing that’s following her. She’s going to figure this out on her own.
Angelo needs whatever help he can get. Two of his most loyal assistants moved away recently, and Scarlet seems to be a Godsend. Despite his doubts, he invites her to assist in his exorcisms and discovers she has a gift. Her ability to sense demonic presence is an invaluable tool for an exorcist. And if she’s hiding something, well, he’s been a priest long enough to know that people have secrets and she’ll come clean when she’s ready.
But the presence following Scarlet isn’t about to be scared off by an old man. Its power is growing, and the time is approaching. Scarlet and Angelo must unravel first Angelo’s past as a black magic practitioner and then Scarlet’s past life in which she knew—intimately—the demon that now stalks her. But it may not be enough to save Scarlet—or her wife and daughter, whom the creature has set its sights on.
Thanks in advance!
