Will | 14 comments Hello everyone ! My name is Will - I'm an avid reader but seem to derive the most entertainment from reading a good thriller/mystery/crime novel ! I discovered GoodReads a few years ago but never found the time to become engaged in the group/website. Now that has changed !

I am a former journalist in the Boston area and currently work as a financial writer for a fairly large company. I'm always looking for a good mystery series with hard boiled detectives. Some of my favorite writers include Raymond Chandler, Ian Rankin, Poe, Lovecraft and King. I do enjoy a good spy/espionage thriller as well. I don't read nearly enough for my liking due to other commitments but I'm trying to squeeze in some extra time now that some things have changed in my life :-) Feel free to offer recommendations or suggestions and I'll do the same ! It's nice to meet you all and I look forward to communicating with many of you !

Aniket (aniketbarik) | 2 comments Hi, Will. Nice to meet you. Ditto. I love reading books from different genres but what appealsthe most to me is crime/mystery/thriller. I'm currently reading the Sherlock Holmes Canon chronologically. Again.

Will | 14 comments Hi Aniket - nice to meet you, too ! You can't go wrong with Sherlock Holmes. It never gets old.

Aniket (aniketbarik) | 2 comments Never ever! Just can't get enough of Sherlock Holmes. What about you? What have you been reading lately?

Will | 14 comments I've been trying to warm up to James Lee Burke and his Dave Robicheaux series but the Louisiana/bayou setting is not one of my favorites. I like his quality of writing, however. Also, I've heard good things about Christopher Reich with his Jonathan Ransom series. I recently bought "Rules of Vengeance" so I'll be starting on that very soon.

Bill Welcome to the group, Will. I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here. I'm currently reading a book of Lovecraft's short stories and enjoying. If you like Spy/ thriller type stories, you might like to check out Alan Furst's Night Soldier series.

Will | 14 comments Hi Malina and Bill - thank you for the warm welcome :-) Yes, Lovecraft's stories really scared me unlike anything else. He was a great writer and created his own genre and worlds to unveil his vision of evil and the supernatural. He was way ahead of his time. I'll check out the Night Soldier series - thank you for the recommendation.

If you enjoy Lovecraft, and want something more up to date, try Laird Barron.

Will | 14 comments Thank you for the recommendation. I'll look into it for sure.
