No worries.

A Sin Bingo is when a book does all 3:

1. The book cover is more than 50% the color of the sin

2. The genre of the sin can be found on the first page of the book's Top shelves

3. It fits the criteria that describes the sin.

An example of a Lust Bingo:

Lover Mine Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward

This book cover is Red, It has a top shelf of guilty pleasure & it fits the criteria of steamy.

This book is a Sin Bingo.

**Note that this competition is not a cutthroat competition. What this means is that the captains have agreed that if a book looks like a color then that is good enough. If it is questionable then we check tineye.**

An example of looks:

Wilder Girls Wilder Girls by Rory Power

This book does not look green to me BUT they are ruling it green by looks alone.

JanEyre9 Hey team! I am Jan :) I live in NY (Long Island) with my husband, 7 y/o daughter, and our sweet basset hound Matilda (we call her Tillie). I love to read fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, and YA. Not a huge thriller or sci-fi fan but don't mind dabbling every now and again. Sorry for the later check-in, I also was suffering from a migraine from yesterday through to late this morning. What a terrible thing for so many teammates to bond over!! I do most of my reading during the week as I listen to audio books most of the day at work and have a physical book going at all times. I am so excited for this TT challenge! I check in mutliple time a day during the week and at least once a day over the weekend.

I plan on reading Wilder Girls for the YA BOM.

You are awesome! Thanks for the help making my 2nd one fit.

You are the best! Do you plan on doing any DQ's? Just for participating as a team we will get 20 points extra. Writing DQ's take that 20 to 40 points.

and no worries if you aren't planning on DQ's :D 20 points is awesome!!

And it is nice to meet you and I hope your migraine has gone far far away :)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments I signed up for the DQs for Wilder Girls last week already, fingers crossed the randomizer likes me (at Wheel-o-Brown I signed up 3 or 4 times at least, but only got picked once, booh! our whole team read lots of BOMs though so even though we only got picked twice for DQs we got lots of BOM participation points :))

Anybody planning on reading Gideon the Ninth? I might if I had the book available to me, but it is sooooo far out of my comfort zone... ):

message 60: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments All 4 books I got from the library (+ one I bought at the train station when I stopped there for Starbucks x)) should work for coloured covers btw! Will share them later, first I'm finally gonna take a nice long bath and will try to get some reading done of a book I started before WoB already oops

Christina wrote: "Okay then maybe I just misunderstood Mama's question(s), because this ^ is exactly what I thought sin bingo is. Whew. I have a purple one btw ;)"

No it was the criteria of Voracity. Under the criteria point it said 600+ pages or something you can't stop Books in a very long series (12+ books). Books from a series or author that you can't stop binge reading. Books that have covers you want to eat (i.e covers that have food or drink on them. Yes, chocolate covered strawberries count).

So my question is in red to the binge part. Does binging have to be read right after the other from a series or an author? Or would it count if we keep reading that series or author?

They said binging would be if it was a series that you were reading one book after another. Or an Author that you kept reading book after book of.

Think of it like you were watching a series on Netflix and you were watching one after another.

Helpful?

message 74: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments I wanted to pop in to chat a bit about the Sin Bingos. I don’t want anyone stressing out about finding them. They are great but I want to give you a couple of examples about bingos and points:

Books are rated by page count and categories:

Books between 100 and 499 pages = 0.1 points per page
Books between 500 and 799 pages = 0.15 points per page
Books 800 pages or more = 0.2 points per page

NOTE: Book Points will be rounded to integer.

EXAMPLE:
Pages Points
160 16
450 45
500 75
750 113
800 160
1050 210

7 points for achieving Sin Bingo
5 points for each book used for colour cover
3 points for each book used for top shelf
1 point for each book used for sin specification (EXCEPT for Avarice, which gets 0 points)

Examples:

Book #1:

I have one book that is 688 pages and meets category 2) Genre for 3 points = 103 + 3 = 106 points total

Book #2:

Then I have another book that is 400 pages and is a BINGO for 7 additional points= 40 + 7= 47 points

Point

Despite Book #2 being a Bingo I should read the other book because it is worth more points.

You don’t need to find BINGO books to be a valuable team member. :D

Bingo books are great and yes be checking for them but what you should be focusing on is reading books you enjoy because points wise they could be more valuable than a bingo book.

unless we get extra extra points for getting a specific number of BINGOS, lol, then it is game on for trying to get BINGOS

I just didn’t want anyone to feel bad if they can’t find a bingo book. Just read high page count books that meet the cover color requirement ;D and that will be awesome!

these are the library books I took home with me today: Landline by Rainbow Rowell Friend Request by Laura Marshall Undead Girl Gang by Lily Anderson The Hazel Wood (The Hazel Wood, #1) by Melissa Albert
and the one I bought at the train station :D These Witches Don't Burn by Isabel Sterling
except for Landline they're all perfect for fall I think!

also, when I was at starbucks I finally got myself a reusable cup which I am super excited about! I don't go to starbucks or other coffee shops a lot, but I hate all the plastic we produce so I'm glad I can cut back at least a little bit :)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Wow! Love how chatty everyone is. Of course today was a day I got stuck at the bar longer than I wanted. And then of course I had to finish my current read for another challenge. ;)

As many of us as want to read BOM is all to the better. I'm definitely going to try to read all of them, including the Backroom BOM. :) We get the 20 extra points each time. It's only one of us that can get picked to do daily questions. :) It's great if you're interested in reading any of the books since it gives us a little bonus.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Hello everyone.

My name is Dragana and I am from Serbia, Europe, so Christina is now officially not the only European on the team. :D As for the timezone, it's GMT+2.
Some of you may know me from Bingo, previous TT or Uno since I've been stalking Goodreads team challenges for some time now. :D

As for planning, I am more of a mood reader, but I read a wide variety of genres with a focus on fantasy, SF, UF, mystery and contemporary. So I think I can cover all of the sins. :D

"Only Award-Winning Books - Any Award as long as it can be linked or appears on Goodreads book page. Books with a mirror or jewels on the cover. Really Shiny books. LGBT books."

why does it say "only award-winning books" but then we have other criteria as well? will just any lgbt book work, or does it have to also have gotten an award?
