But I will say here, doesn't this sound like a fun family to belong to?
I'm sure that was the main reason I have read it so many times: I like to imagine what it would be like to live in family (of any size) where laughter and learning are both so highly valued.
and I think my favorite chapter out of all (hard to pick just one) would be "visiting Mrs. Murphy" - having had many road trips as a child I loved to hear about theirs.

Also, I’d forgotten this, but it’s definitely written like they had 12 kids running around at the same time, riding in the car, etc. In reality, their daughter Mary died before several of the youngest siblings were born. But I can understand why they chose to gloss over that in this first book.

I hope more people read and post about the book! I just finished Belles today.

I love the one of Anne in her 1926 wedding dress.

those are interesting, thank you for posting them.
Since this is a short, episodic book, we'll just use this one thread for discussion of the book while people are reading it. Please mark any spoilers (view spoiler)[like who dies when (hide spoiler)]. I'm setting up a second Spoilerville thread for post-reading discussions.
Thanks! And don't forget to find a copy of the sequel, Belles on Their Toes, if you can - we're reading them as a set. I read it many years ago and remember it as very charming.
