Margo, I think we can safely say we'll be adding that last one to what you'll be reading seeing as it's double bonus points :)

Cool!

I've started Three Things About Elsie.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I hope it's ok I started with The Eleventh Floor. Thanks for the awesome spreadsheet, Lynn. Happy reading everyone!

message 107: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments So quiet. I expect everyone's reading up a storm.

My book, The Eleventh Floor is going ok, but I'm not thrilled with the Audible narrator. Her Brittish accent is so strong, I'm having some trouble understanding her speech. Plus, I discovered the Kindle e-book I ordered with it isn't compatible with WhisperSync, so I can't read along on my Kindle. Soooo, after speaking with Amazon's support people, I came up with my own solution. I'm listening with my phone and reading along on my Kindle. I lost some precious reading time with customer service, etc.

I'll check in later to see how everyone's doing.

message 108: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11635 comments Oh that's so annoying Debra! I've been caught more than once with an incompatible ebook. I am enjoying my narration more than the actual story. I think my book may be too slow paced to make for a good toppler listen. I am nearly half way through book 1.

message 109: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Yep, annoying!

message 110: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11635 comments As they always say, it is either a feast or a famine! Seeing Janice reading The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms made me think that this book, which I'd previously discounted, is a valid choice. It has been on my shelf f9r 2 years so it's about time I read it. I will work out the numbers tomorrow but it is another double pointer 😊

I'm going to turn in now. Night all 😴😴😴

Tricia (triciareadsitall) | 900 comments Just checking in to say I’m here. I’ll be reading in a bit. It’s been a busy day around here. I always think I’m going to be totally free during Topplers, and then I’m not.

message 113: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Hi, I’m 83% into my book and should finish it tonight. I will definitely start another one. I’m checking to see which I want to do next to make it fit the yearly challenge.

message 114: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Sleep well, Margo.

I've avoided paying attention to what everyone else is reading for fear of adding more to my TBR. But I know I can't ignore doing so for long.

message 115: by Trudy (new)

Trudy (trudyan) | 1779 comments I should finish Euphoria tonight. I picked up Albatross from the library this morning, and it has a one-week loan period, so I need to read that next, even though I wasn’t planning to read it this week.

388 pages (linked edition indicates 400 pages, but physical book is 388)
Published Aug 13, 2019

(8, 9)

message 118: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Yay Jannene!

I'm here, had somethings to do this morning. Going to start on Power of Three after catching up on the threads here. Do have early dinner tonight to meet the grand nibling, but hopefully everyone goes home early and I can keep on reading!

message 119: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11635 comments Morning folk 😀

69% through Three Things About Elsie. Might get to start book 2 before the day ends if my lazy day of reading goes according to plan. I'm doing the audio so I hope to spend the afternoon painting and listening.

Elsie is growing on me. It is beautifully written with some very poignant lines. The narration by Paule Wilcox is wonderful.

Hope you are all enjoying your chosen books as much 😊

message 120: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Morning all! I'm just over halfway through Six of Crows. It's okay so far. If all goes to plan I should get it finished later today or tomorrow.

message 121: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Morning all! I just came back from dinner and trying to knock off a bit more of my book before unwinding with some Critical Role before bed.

Met little Harvey, who is very doll like, and very loved already. That boy is not going to ever touch the floor at family gatherings. Between 12 people in the room he was being fought over for cuddles the whole time. And that was less than half the family.

Really enjoying my book. Great little world with a bit of a twist. If I don't get through it tonight, I should tomorrow.

Hey TrudyAn, does that have a knock on effect regarding your other books and you'll be replacing this with one of your books, or is this an additional read?

message 123: by Margo (last edited Oct 13, 2019 10:15AM) (new)

Margo | 11635 comments After another look at the rules it seems that numbers in the title must be below 10 to qualify for bonus points so The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms would only quality for bonus points in the page count.

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms
number of pages: 421 (+5)
pub date: 2010
series: 1
if audio, add length: 11h 47min
fits numbers: 1
point: 15

BUT, I found a great one on my shelf!

The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old (+5) *
number of pages: 400 (+5)
pub date: .13.7.17
first published: 1.6.14
if audio, add length: 11h 52m
fits numbers: 1, 4, 6, 7
Points: 10

*I need to check with Kristie what number I can take from the title, if any.

I am still only committing to 4 books but I might get 5 done.

Check that. That;s not how I read it. It needs to be under ten to count for a slot. But if it has a number no matter how big in the title, according to my reading that counts for bonus points.

message 125: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (triciareadsitall) | 900 comments Lynn I apologize in advance, I'm about to make more work for your spread sheet. I finished 9 From the Nine Worlds, but I should have looked at it a little more closely beforehand. It is technically 176 pages, just making the requirements, but there is a glossary at the end and several pages without text between each chapter. So I don't think it would really be fair to count it.

So I've slotted another book in for the same spot so as not to mess up our count.

Book: Nine Dragons
pages: 374
Pub date: 10//13/2009
First published N/A
Series: 14
Audio length N/S
Fits, 4, 9

Sorry for the last minute switch. I should finish it later today.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Happy reading, All!

Thank you Rus. I just re-reread the rules and you are right! After listening to first few lines I am bumping it up my reading, whether on no I read it for this toppler :-)

I have finished Three Things About Elsie and will head over to the reporting thread now. I think I will give it 4 stars. The beginning didn't really grab me but the end was awesome!

Tonight I will start Six of Crows.

Lynn, Kristie came back to me and her answer indicates that BOTH of the above DO qualify for double bonus points :-D

message 129: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Congrats to those who've finished books. I'm almost done with The Eleventh Floor. Lynn, does it matter what I read next?

Rus, your new member of the family sure sounds muched loved. A real cutie.

My interpretation of the rules is the same as Rusulka's. Any number counts for bonus points, but only 1-9 can be used for a slot. Other criteria has to be used to fit a slot for numbers greater than 9.

Back to my book.

Debra - I've only got you definitely reading Power of Three this week, but as long as it's done at some point then you can read it at any time. So if you want to start something else first go ahead, just let me know what it is

message 132: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Ok, Lynn. Will do! The Power of Three only comes in paper; no audiobook that I can find. I'll pick it up from the library today.

message 133: by Lynn (last edited Oct 13, 2019 09:26AM) (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Margo - From what I can see, all versions of your secret diary book are below 400 pages, so don't qualify for that bonus point.

Tricia - Noted and changed

message 134: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Tricia, I ithink your book should count. You got it based on the page count reported, and unaware of the additional pages, which appear to make up the count. And you read it in good faith. I'm sure this isn't the first time that happened. Maybe run it by Kristie before completely ruling it out?

I should be able to make this an additional read.

Darn it, sorry Lynn, I was looking at the version with the same cover as the audio, The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old by Hendrik Groen . I missed that it wasn't the hard cover.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I finished The Eleventh Floor and will go report it.

Now I'm reading:

1888-The Ripper File: Book One of the Paranormal; Research and Rescue Institute
236 pages
Published 8/7/17
Series #1
Audible listening time: 7 hours, 49 minutes
Numbers can use 1, 6, 7, 8
Bonus number in title 5 points

How's everyone else doing?

I just finished it. I've read a few in this series, but not in order; so it always takes me a minute to catch up with where things are in his personal life. You're right, though, I thought it was good too.

message 149: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11635 comments Morning all!

I'm struggling with Six of Crows. Can't remember why I bought it except there was a lot of hype about it at the time. It's not a bad book but it is not for me. It is adventure and action. I liked the first chapter which hinted at magic and there is indeed a magical element but it's not really what the story is about. I will get to the end but I might start my third book and finish this one while I do some mindless housework.

How are you getting on with this one Lisa? It didn't sound like you were hooked.

message 150: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11635 comments Lynn, any preference of my round 3 book?

book name: Year One,(+5)
No. of pages: 410 (+5)
pub date: 5/12/17
first published: n/a
series: 1
if audio, add length: 12 hrs and 20 min
fits numbers: 1, 5, 7
Points: 20

Or

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms
number of pages: 421 (+5)
pub date: 2010
series: 1
if audio, add length: 11h 47min
fits numbers: 1
point: 20

I'm guessing in the above order but want to check ☺
