Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments Does anyone have ideas for a team name?
Normally I'll make the spreadsheet tomorrow so we can have a view who's reading what and how we're progressing.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hi team three!
WoF Cherie, checking in.

I've been gophering for the last hour and a half. I have a long list, but I do not know how available they might be. I am still checking out my owned books for numbers in the title - for bonus points. I know I have at least two Nero Wolf paperback books with Three in the title. I think I have a hardcopy of the Charlie Davidson series book #2 - Second Grave on the Left. I could re-listen to Ready Player One and use it for my MM challenge. I own it on Audible. These will be after, I finish my first three books. The first two are for challenges.

I will be reading these first:
audiobook: The Mapping of Love and Death
number of pages: 338 hc
first published: March 23rd 2010
series: #7 (Maisie Dobbs)
if audio, add length: 9 hrs. 54min.
release date of audiobook: May 10th 2010
fits numbers: 3,5,7,8,9 (If I understood the rules correctly)

ebook: The Human Division
number of pages: 431 hc
first published: May 14th 2013
series: #5 (Old Man's War)
if audio, add length: n/a
fits numbers: 1,3,5
if we are reading an ebook, we default to the hardcover for reporting, right?

audiobook: Four Seasons in Rome: On Twins, Insomnia, and the Biggest Funeral in the History of the World
number of pages: 210 hc
first published: June 12th 2007
series: n/a
if audio, add length: 6 hrs. 17min.
release date of audiobook: Sept 1st, 2015
fits numbers: 1,4,5,6,7,9

Lanelle | 4024 comments Saar The Book owl wrote: "@Lanelle: I've made the spreadsheet, but how can I link it with you, so we can follow the group progress? I'm not so good with spreadsheets ;)"

I'm sorry. I don't know anything about spreadsheets. Maybe someone else can answer your question.

If it was me trying to figure out all the possibilities, I would muddle along with a post or two in a reporting thread :)

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I think it best if fewer people have access to edit the spreadsheet, otherwise, it gets complicated. Captain and co-captain would be fine though. If Lanelle PM's you her email address, you can invite her to have access to the file and edit it too I believe. We report our reads in the reporting thread and you guys update it. But if only one of you can edit it, it wouldn't be a major issue either.

message 17: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I have lots of options. Not sure what I'm going to feel in the mood for yet. I am going to aim for 1 print and 1 audiobook. I have a couple of books with numbers in the title too.

Lanelle | 4024 comments I'll PM you my email address. If you would rather have someone else with more knowledge of spreadsheets help, it won't hurt my feelings. This would definitely be a learning experience for me :)

I actually read three of your options, I didn't expect that :D

And I also bought a book with a number in the title today!

message 21: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Lanelle - are you reading any books for challenges, or just for the toppler?

My last book for the Birds of a Feather challenge (last month) finally became available today. That challenge is done, but it will fit in my MM challenge, so, I might slot it in, IF I finish the others I have planned first. It is a little long, so I may not.

Lanelle | 4024 comments Cherie wrote: "Lanelle - are you reading any books for challenges, or just for the toppler?"

Yes, I will need to read books for other team challenges next week. I've got my fingers crossed that the books I have picked out for this challenge will fit those. You'll know that I'd had to come up with a different book if I report reading a book that doesn't have a number in the title :)

message 23: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hmm, Lanell, you made me re-think one of the Nero Wolfe books. It will fit in the October monthly challenge, if I use "death" instead of "human". I will compare the scoring. ;o)
It does not get me any closer to ever killing off the Nero Wolfe series, but it IS an extra 5 points over The Human Division and shorter.

And I've made the reporting thread. Let me know if there's anything you would like me to add or change.

message 30: by Sarah (last edited Oct 10, 2019 01:02AM) (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I think I'm going to listen to Thirteen Reasons Why which would fit the following numbers: 2,6,7 (could use for realistic fiction in MM)

For a print book, I think I'll go for one of the following:
Dune Messiah: 2, 6, 9 (could use for monthly challenge)
Three Parts Dead: 1, 2, 3
The Ninth Orphan: 1, 2 (has 2 authors), 4, 6, 9
The Tattooist of Auschwitz: 1, 2, 8, 9 (could use for MM)

message 31: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Saar, be careful with your date numbers. Only dates of the month under 9 count. So your 9 for Kite Runner and 1 (in 31st) for Friday on my mind (although you have 1 for that with the page count)

For months and days of the month, the number still needs to be below ten. So a book published in January through September would work, as the months are numbered 1-9. Books from October through December (10-12) don't count for month numbers. Same with days of the month, if it is published on the first through 9th of the month, you can use it.

Don't you get to apply the 2 for the 352 pages in the hardcover version, since you are listening to an audiobook?

Lanelle | 4024 comments Could everyone please tell me which book(s) they will start reading or listening to for the Toppler? I'd like to start plugging in numbers on the spreadsheet to see where there's a hole or two.

message 45: by Lanelle (last edited Oct 11, 2019 08:56AM) (new)

Lanelle | 4024 comments Saar, awards and nominations for awards have been approved as a way to get a number for a book. Could you add:
7 to The Wonder for a nomination in 2017
4, 6, and 8 to The Kite Runner for awards and nominations in 2004, 2006, 2008

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments @Lanelle: I've added the nominations.

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments I see the remark in some posts for the number of pages: 'hc'. What does that mean?

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments Hi teammies, if you look at the spreadsheet: I've added books for the first round. You don't need to follow that. We will be switching and swapping books from places as the toppler continues and we're finishing books.

message 49: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm down for ninth orphan but I'm not sure if I'll choose that book yet. I'll decide tomorrow which I'm reading. Also, I'm a slow poke so I wouldn't rely on me for two books in round 1. I think we can only really allocate once we've completed to some degree. Not all team members are listed on the spreadsheet either.

message 50: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4024 comments Saar The Book owl wrote: "@Lanelle: I've added the nominations."

Thank you.

Saar The Book owl wrote: "I see the remark in some posts for the number of pages: 'hc'. What does that mean?"

hc = hardcover. For those that are reading ebooks or listening to audio books, we have to go by the highest rated hardcover version of the book.
