Jenn | 126 comments I am on page 54 of Michele Cameron's Never Say Never... and I desparately want to give up. I got bored with it at about page 14 or so but I hate to give up on a book. The cliche sibblings started the downward spiral. Now the dream guy with the same political beliefs as her father is starting to turn my stomach a little. I really do not think I can get past the politics. Just finishing a great book, Unfinished Business, I do not think I can handle this one sided political stuff. I live in DC for goodness sake, if I wanted to hear people hash over politics reguardless what side, I could just stick my head out the door.
Is there any reason to go on? I don't know after my rant, maybe I anwsered my own question.

I haven't read this book (but I think it's on my wishlist) but maybe you can set it aside for now and come back to it later? That way it won't feel like pulling teeth and you can check back to see if you gel with it at a later date. If it's like Maya said, maybe it's pass. :-(

(Going to check to see if this is on my shelf. A bummer because it sounded interesting)

Cinquetta (darkfaer) | 54 comments I give you ladies your props. Especially when you can finish a book that you consider boring stupid or has no plot. For me if I don't like the characters hate the plot it boring or it just suck. I kick throw hide that book so far back in my closet. It will not see the light of day I don't waste my time on foolish. I give all readers their props for finish a books. YOU GO GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 5: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 126 comments I decided to give up. Went strolling around Borders, but of course they had no IR books in stock, so it was back to Amazon. It would be nice if I could get the books I wanted locally and not have to wait for delivery. Ereaders are looking more and more appealing now.

I feel you Jenn. My love of IR books has catapulted me into the 21st century and ebooks. I will get my Kindle at the end of the month, and look out world. It won't take me so long to read all the delicious interracial ebooks!!

True.

I can check out ebooks from my library, but a lot of them aren't interracial books. If a book is print, I have a better chance at getting it from my library or another library.

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) | 2017 comments Mod
Count me in for wishin gthere were more in print also. I think since most are indies, the companies they print through make the cost so high that the authors have to boost the price even more to get a profit. It really sucks. :-( It'd be great if more come out via some of the biggies. I know Kimani has some on the pipeline and those will be in stores. Other than that, it's hard to see.

I feel sympathy for the indie authors. They are rather forced to go the ebook route to get their books out there. But they certainly can build a large following in ebooks that will follow them into print. I hope the Kimani IR has the individuality and unique storytelling that I'm enjoying in the ebooks. Excepting the highly erotic content that's hard to avoid, I think there are some really great interracial ebooks coming out lately.

message 12: by CaliGirlRae, Mod Squad (last edited Sep 14, 2009 01:28AM) (new)

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) | 2017 comments Mod
Too true, Danielle. I'm finding a few really good voices that can definitely make some waves with great storytelling in the e-format. A few of them are writing sweet romance too so it's a nice change from the erotica centered books that takes up most of the format. (No offense, of course, to erotica authors but it'd be great to have more sweet and sensual in the mix of offerings :-))

I'm keeping an eye out for the upcoming books in Kimani also. One thing I notice in this particular imprint is the amount of different and smart careers the heroines and heroes are having like the space program, bakery, politics and reporting just to name a few. I've only read Robyn Amos (and I'm enjoying hers) but I really like the kinds of characters I'm finding in the blurbs.

Well let me know which ones grab your interest in the Kimani imprint. This month's offerings didn't blow me away.

Also I didn't want to make it sound like I don't respect the erotic authors. I know they are really great at what they write. I just wish there was a larger spectrum of content that goes from sweet to erotic. I hope that didn't come out as a criticism.

I agree, Danielle. Variety, spice of life and all that good stuff. :-) I don't think it was a criticism. I was hoping mine wasn't also, just a mini statement since I'm not really into it. :-)

For Kimani, the ones I'm interested in are Sugar Rush, Campaign for Seduction and Cosmic Rendezvous. The latter for sure because it features a romance with astronauts! I love that idea! So far no IRs coming up this year from what I see in the lineup so maybe they'll start popping up next year.

I sent you guys a rec to an AA romance in the Silhouette Special Edition line. I nearly fell out of my chair!

I saw that and added it to my list. Thanks for the rec, Rae. I look forward to reading your reviews of the Kimani books. If you enjoy them, I'll go ahead and give them a read.

You definitely didn't come off as critical at all.

message 19: by CaliGirlRae, Mod Squad (new)

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) | 2017 comments Mod
Sounds good! I'll probably give Cosmic Rendezvous a go since I enjoyed Robyn Amos' Sex and the Single Braddock. Then I'll see from there. Will be posting my review. :-)

Oh! Good to know. Thanks Danielle. :-)

message 21: by Yolonda (new)

Yolonda | 406 comments The problem I have with a lot of IR ebooks is that they are usually so short that they're often not worth the price in a printed book form. I don't know why the price is so ridiculously high compared to mainstream paperbacks.

Most use print on demand which have the same problem as the indie authors.

Yeah I called it quits. I just could not make it past 54 were she was so excited he had the same political beliefs as her dad. I just found that so gay, annoying and not sexy. It still weirds me out. Maybe those are just my issues?

Someone else was saying their library carried E-books

My library isn't doing any of that

message 39: by new_user (last edited Sep 20, 2009 01:45AM) (new)

new_user It's in a Chicago suburb, Sharon. I've seen a good amount of libraries carry e-books, but this was the first providing an actual reader. Too bad it's only available to residents. *weep*

This library also had playaway mp3 audiobooks, an ESL center with language learning software, video games, and cool sections scattered around like "If you liked that, then you'll like... (e.g. If you liked JD Robb...)"

that is very nice..I wish our libraries did it and I do like JD Robb lol

message 41: by PT (new)

PT (spinsterpt) | 319 comments How exactly would loaning out Kindles work? Does the library foot the bill for the books you download or are you responsible for that?
Some of those Kindle books are expensive and I wouldn't want to pay $10 just to read a book once.

You can check and see if your library carries books over at Overdrive. It's kinda like the go between distributor for ebooks and libraries. You don't even have to go to the library to check out an ebook either!

Here's where you can search libraries: http://search.overdrive.com

Rae, I have checked with my library and I was told that they don't get ebooks from other libraries. What they have on their site is what they have.

message 49: by CaliGirlRae, Mod Squad (new)

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) | 2017 comments Mod
Yeah usually the libraries only allow you to check out what's from their catalog. :-/

Which is weird because sometimes back in the day they would check with other libraries and then let you know if it's available there. But I think you can check Overdrive to see what's available where because I was checking California and East Coast libraries for certain books and I'm in the Southwest. But I'd need a card from those locations before checking out books there (which sucks). :-/

message 50: by Arch , Mod (new)

Arch | 6707 comments Mod
I know, I would need a card at these other libraries as well. They might not give me one, because I don't leave in those cities.
