Erica (_divingunder) Here is where we can discuss the book Paper Towns :)

Hope to hear from you soon, Abby!

Abby Shiner (abbyjean14) Hi Erica!
I have just started Part Two and I am loving this book so far! I am drawn to how Green is able to capture the perfect amount of snark in high school students. As an 8th grade English teacher I can tell you that the attitudes of Q and Margo are spot on.

Margo's revenge scavenger hunt was so fantastic I kind of want to create my own for some of my own exes who did me wrong:) I think one of my favorite lines so far is the one where Q describes Margo's friend Lucy and says something about how she has kept her figure by eating the souls of kittens. Fantastic!

Obviously there is something darker hidden behind all of Margo's bravado and I'm pretty sure that I'm about to find out more about that part of the story soon. The idea of the strings that hold us all together and thinking about what happens when our strings are cut or when they shred away is an interesting one, as is Margo's description of a paper town and what that means to her.

So what are your thoughts so far? Have you read other books by John Green? I read The Fault in Our Stars and loved it! Not surprising that I'm enjoying this one so far too.

Erica (_divingunder) Hi Abby, I am so sorry, but I am way far behind, I have had school and exams like no other. I thought high school work was bad, but no, college has gotten the best of me. Okay, enough about my ranting.

I will start to read tonight and the weekend will consist of my persistent reading :) So, this weekend I will be writing back with lots to talk about. Again I am sorry for being behind and not conversing as much!

Can't wait to discuss.

Abby Shiner (abbyjean14) Totally not a problem... I totally understand getting behind. Grading papers sucks the life out of me. I'll look forward to seeing what you have to say next week!
Take care!

Erica (_divingunder) I agree with everything you've said. The scavenger hunt was something to fun to read. Seeing the teenagers go around and do crazy things (the fun of High School). I think Margo does have a hidden agenda to her reasonings behind everything that she did. I'm excited to see what's next in the book.

I have read TFIOS as well and I was in love. I read it all in one night and had a cry fest.

Erica (_divingunder) How's the reading coming Abby? :)

Abby Shiner (abbyjean14) I have finished the book and I have to say it kind of dragged on for me at a certain point. I was over whatever Margo was trying to get Q to figure out after a few chapters of it. I also feel like John Green has a formula to his writing which is kind of predictable. There's always some kind traveling search that happens to the characters, the end never ends up the way the main character wants it to, I know I've only read two of his books, but my students have read more and based on their writing that pattern shows up in all of his books. I suppose that is something to discuss too...why that particular pattern? What are you thinking so far?

message 8: by Erica (new)

Erica (_divingunder) I finished as well and I completely agree with you on the slow movement in the book. I just wanted it to get somewhere. The car ride took forever to get through, the clues took forever to find. One clue, with the whole pins on the board, I put together in a matter of seconds and it took Q so long to figure it out. I did not like the ending, I was kind of disappointed with this book. Especially after loving TFIOS.

I haven't noticed his pattern, quite yet, but I will after I read a few more of his books. I think he needs to veer away from that pattern because with Paper Towns it just did not work.

Abby Shiner (abbyjean14) Absolutely agreed. Hey...the other girl, Erin, wanted to be a part of our discussion. I told her to get in touch with you about finding the thread.

Jane | 5 comments In my opinion Paper Towns is my favorite book by John Green. The way he describe every single thing they do to find Margo it's just amazing.
