If by, "the man who fed them on a diet of hate and funded their crimes" you are referring to Osama bin Laden, I would say that you should rephrase with "one of the men who fed them on a diet of hate.
Osama was not alone in this, there are many leaders just like him who continue to feed many more with the same hatred.
These people based it on a direct reading of the Qur'an, therefore, you could say "two of the men that fed them...." and include Mohammad.
So, to take this to Dennis' original question, I will expand...if you know that someone wants to kill you without even knowing you simply because you do not believe as he does, would hating them be unjustified?
