Maritha Holmström | 6 comments Ok lovely people I need some recomendations on horror books without a happy ending. I usually think they destroy the feeling built up in the book and they often feel very unrealistic.

Mort | 26 comments how extreme are you willing to go? and what kind of horror do you have in mind? If you are interested in extreme, I have a few suggestions, like Matt Shaw or something like OFF SEASON by Jack Ketchum...

I am open to suggestions. I've been away from horror for a couple of years so I need to catch up.

Kim | 148 comments I agree with Mort on Jack Ketchum. He definitely wrote some realistic feeling horror.

Mort | 26 comments Let's ease you into it, shall we?

Try THE 8TH or CAPTIVE HEARTS by Matt Shaw - it's not his most extreme work.
Jack Ketchum is always a good call.
I especially liked TRAPPED by Killborn/Konrath.
DRACULAS by Killborn, Strand, Wilson and Crouch.

Let me know what you think of the blurbs (or if you've read them), and I'll be open to giving you more suggestions if you like it.
Happy reading!

Maritha Holmström | 6 comments No, I haven't read any of them. I actually just looked at CAPTIVE HEARTS by Matt Shaw, and I like what I see. This is going to be great :)

Phil (chaoseum) | 792 comments My suggestion is probably a bit obvious, but Pet Sematary is a great example of horror novel with an unhappy ending.

That is true. It was many years since I read it, maybe time for a re-read. Maybe in English this time, I don't know where my old copy has gone.

Atlanta (dark_leo) | 271 comments I like this idea and off season is on my want to read shelf and I believe trapped is either in my library or on my want to read shelf as well.

Just stop reading when you get to the last chapter. :)

Danny Farham (dannyfarham) Anything by Shaun Hutson has an unhappy ending.

Maritha Holmström | 6 comments I was just looking at Angel Manor, that one looks really great.

Thank you.

The Fisherman
Midnight Sun

Harvest Home
Hell House
Naomi's Room
The Red Tree

Now, not having a "happy" ending isn't the same as having an "unhappy" ending ... except sometimes.
