message 10: by Sonnie (new)

Sonnie (sonnie2006) Ohh good luck! I came so close one year to reaching 100 (read 90), but it hasn't happened since I had my daughter lol.
I love your TBR Mountain challenge too! Might have to do that one myself!

Yes! Highly recommend Malice when it comes out next month! 😁

message 15: by Sonnie (new)

Sonnie (sonnie2006) Ohh Malice sounds really good! I'm definitely going to check it out!
Also, RL Stine!!! I haven't read any of his books since middle school! I used to love him and Christopher Pike! Makes me want to go back and read Fear Street again!

message 16: by Liliana, YA Paranormal Lover (new)

Liliana (lililostinabook) | 2893 comments Mod
Oh girl, I read a lot of Fear Street. Lol. It's been a lot of fun revisiting them. One of the reasons I like them is because they're so short you can finish them in one sitting. Lol.

message 17: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 6451 comments Mod
The one time I read an RL Stine as an adult it didnt live up to memory so I avoid them now. But I love seeing how much Lili enjoys them :)
Wait a few years and read them with your daughter Sonnie!!

message 18: by Sonnie (new)

Sonnie (sonnie2006) I might read some around Halloween this year! I kind of worried about that too Britt. Like it wouldn't live up to my memory of them. But I think it would be fun to revisit them around October during spooky season! And definitely will read them with River when she gets a little older!

message 19: by Liliana, YA Paranormal Lover (new)

Liliana (lililostinabook) | 2893 comments Mod
Oh, you guys... them not living up to expectation is something you will experience... I'm putting that out there now. Lol. The R.L. Stine books I have been reading lately have been kinda meh. There are very few that I plainly do not like, but every once in a while I find a real gem! (Silent Night is one of my faves!) But overall, I just really enjoy reading them, even if I'm not a fan of the story/mystery or whatever.

Now I'm wondering what my ratings look like for these books... Oooh, I'm gonna have to put together a graph one of these days! Lol.

message 20: by Sonnie (new)

Sonnie (sonnie2006) Lili maybe you can give us your top 5 one day so we can read the best of the best when we get ready to revisit them lol!

Right? Lol. Every time I go to the store I always pass by the book section. It doesn't even matter what store it is, I always check out the books! Lol. I'm pretty good about not impulse buying though, But Book Outlet is a whole other thing. It's hard to resist every time they have a sale 😅

And yes I agree, its so hard when there is a book sale of any kind anywhere not to give in!

I have a weakness when it comes to Book Outlet. Lol. And right now they have a $5 off coupon and I am very tempted to visit the site 😅

I wasn't expecting to finish Lock Every Door by Riley Sager today, but I did! It was awesome! This was a library book, so it can't count toward my Mount TBR, but it is my 7th book read so I'm happy with that. Lol.

Finished MARY Unleashed (Bloody Mary, #2) by Hillary Monahan ! I decided to read this book sort of last minute... my goal this year is to finish at least one series per month, and it's the end of the month and I still hadn't finished anything, so I went with this one! It's only a duology so I thought I'd do this one. It was also nice because the book was pretty short. Lol.

Yay for last minute series finishing. Was it any good?

message 34: by Liliana, YA Paranormal Lover (new)

Liliana (lililostinabook) | 2893 comments Mod
Yes! I admit I liked the first book better—it was much creepier—but the sequel was pretty good. It wrapped things up and we found out what happened to Bloody Mary that made her the way she is, so it was interesting.

message 35: by Liliana, YA Paranormal Lover (new)

Liliana (lililostinabook) | 2893 comments Mod
In January I ended up reading 10 books, with 1 of them being a re-read.

3 were standalone books and the rest were part of a series.

6 books were books I purchased, 2 from the library, 1 was an Amazon freebie, and one was an ARC from Netgalley.

3 books were 5-star reads, 3 were 4-star reads, 3 were 3-star reads, and 1 was a 2-star read.

I read books from 3 new-to-me authors, and the rest I'd previously read.

I read 2 adult books, 6 YA, 1 MG, and 1 nonfiction.

It was good! I really loved that it was tied to the Salem witch trials and I loved the magical aspect to it! My only gripe with it is that it had a love triangle...I hate love triangles! Especially when I really like both of the guys 😩 (As was the case with this one). But I enjoyed the book regardless!

Today I finished Sisters of Salt and Iron (The Sisters of Blood and Spirit, #2) by Kady Cross which is another book off the tbr mountain AND since it's a duology, that's another series done! Yay 😊

Triangles aren't my fave either :(

message 42: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 6451 comments Mod
I might avoid it because of the triangle alone. When they are done well they can be enjoyable but usually they are just thrown in to add some fake angst or something.

Yay for finishing another series!

message 43: by Liliana, YA Paranormal Lover (new)

Liliana (lililostinabook) | 2893 comments Mod
They're just the worst! I don't think I've ever liked a love triangle ever. Well, I remember not minding the one in the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent, but it's been years since I read that.

Right? Lol. I think I've read like 2 so far this year? Last year I only read FOUR. The year before I had read somewhere around 20, I think! 😬 (Although, to be fair, even though the Fear Street books are standalones, they're all part of the same world sooo 🤷‍♀️ lol)
