Maria Elmvang (kiwiria) | 71 comments Unfortunately Danish publishers are notorious for splitting books up in several parts when translating. Last I heard, we weren't supposed to combine "parts" with the "whole" book? I.e. "Name of the Wind #1" and "Name of the Wind #2" should not be combined with "Name of the Wind - full".

Alas, well-meaning librarians have been combining these Danish editions, so I have to go separate them every couple of months - something which is getting rather tedious.

So, just to make sure I'm not making a mistake here - I'm correct in saying that these editions should not be combined, right?

And if so, is there any way I can leave a comment on the combining page? (Like the one here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/combine...) I've tried leaving comments on the book itself, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

Absolutely.

Sounds like you're leaving a Comment (box near the bottom of edit page) not a Librarian's Note (link near the top of the edit page opens a gray box).

Maria Elmvang (kiwiria) | 71 comments Gah! Right under my very nose and I was too blind to see it. Thanks!

It's a common error. I keep meaning to write something up for the Manual.

Maria Elmvang (kiwiria) | 71 comments 8 new comments written. Hopefully that's 8 books I'll never have to separate again!

Thanks again :)

Rivka, When you have the time, that would be wonderful. I've done it so many times yet recently it again took me several minutes to find the librarian note link.

Shannon (shannoncb) | 14 comments I don't think I knew this before (not that I've done this to my knowledge), but what's the idea behind not combining books that have been split apart (it's not just Danish and French publishers, but some American ones too) with the "whole" book?

I mean, aside from omnibus editions - like where you have trilogies in one book - there are the times where one publisher takes a whole book and divides it up.

The answer's probably really obvious but my brain's fried - why can't they be on the same page as the regular book, so the reviews are all in one place? It can get confusing either way, it seems.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Shannon, Because just because a reader has read Part 1 or Part 2 or Part 3 doesn't mean they've read the whole book.

We're trying to combine identical editions. The whole books, all part 1 of 2 editions with each other, etc.

Does that make sense?
