I didn’t enjoy carry on I got a few chapters in and stopped reading it

Amanda Lynn | 4 comments I liked Carry On. I've read it twice. I enjoyed the parallels to other chosen one stories, with the twist being that Simon is the hero and the villain. I loved the character development of Simon and Baz, while Agatha and Penelope grated on me. They were too stereotypical for my liking. I've read Wayward Son and felt it moved at a much faster pace. Going into it, I thought it was going to be more about the characters dealing with all the trauma they'd been through, but it stalled out in that respect. I will say, the plot was compelling enough and I was pleasantly surprised at Penelope and Agatha's character growth.

Leonora (aliencat) I loved Carry On but i felt like the characters were kinda of flattened versions of themselves in Wayward Son. Some of the plot points were interesting and I like that it was mostly a road trip but Simon and Baz’s relationship (which let’s be honest was one of the best things about Carry On) just wasn’t there with in one. I still liked it but the lack of Simon/Baz was kind of disappointing.

also omg that cliffhanger though !! i can not wait for the third book

George (Books n' Guac) (booksnguac) | 67 comments Okay I have a feeling this discussion might be old but I’m fifty-two pages in and really, really love this book already. I think it’s better than Carry On slightly, which is a lot because Carry On is one of my favorite books. The scene where Simon learns how to drive is so cute but I can feel tension between the two of them. Definitely one of my favorite scenes in a book ever!

Amanda Lynn | 4 comments I love how Rowell depicts reactions to trauma in a realistic way. I also adore how she has completely turned my opinion of Agatha on its head. I used to view her as annoying and now I'm really loving her character. I also appreciate Baz's character growth relative to his vampirism. There are a couple of issues that stood out to me that I'd be interested to see if anyone agrees with. I was really disheartened by how she dealt with Baz's bloodlust. Obviously, he's not going to start sucking on humans, but when he found out he could stop drinking an animal's blood to prevent killing it, why didn't he? Also, why wouldn't he have thought of this before? The other issue was how unprepared Baz and Penny were before leaping into the trip to America. Where's the whiteboard breaking down each step of the journey? I really love this book, but there are certain parts that make me stop and wonder why it feels so rushed and not as well developed as Rowell's other works.

I loved that scene too!

Cherry | 7 comments I'm nearly finished with this book. I'm just about to get into the climax.

Does anyone else find Shepard really irritating? I legit roll my eyes any time he says anything, he so annoying XD

Iris (iris_booksummary) | 6 comments I read the book not long ago and I really loved it, especially because we get to see how all of the traumatic events that happened in Carry On affected our characters in a realistic way. I did feel like it was a bit rushed, but I also feel like that is intentional? It's like you mentioned, they don't have the structure they had for years anymore and that really can make people feel completely lost, which was also a feeling I could place not only on Baz and Simon, but also (and maybe especially) on Penelope. I did enjoy Agatha much more in this book and I also did find Shepard kind of irritating at times, but I warmed up to him after he helped XD
I am always hoping for a happy ending for Simon and Baz, because I feel like they really deserve it. That's mainly what I'm hoping for really, they worry me a lot and I just want them to have some peace ^^;; And I'm wondering if they will tackle the issue of Simon possibly being a baby dragon?? Like that scene made me scream, I need answers.
