Cole Duncan I chose to Read Not Your Sidekick by C.B Lee. I was first grabbed by the thought of an LGBQT superhero book. I’ve never read one, I was pretty excited to see what it was like, how it was different and how it was similar. The book is a cool storyline through the protagonist Jess. Jess lives in a post World War III where almost everyone has superpowers. Jess's parents are Vietnamese and Chinese and she's not the only diverse character. Emma who is Jess’ best friend is Latina and her other best friend is described as having “dark skin” and is transgender. The book is different and in a great way. It’s not the average boring superhero with a guy protagonist. Not Your Sidekick was an entertaining book about friends and their adventures. I do like reading classic books where all the friends hangout and do things, but this can only work well if there's character development and well made characters. Not Your Sidekick has many diverse characters who each have a story you want to know more about. Reading what they do was surprisingly entertaining with all of their futuristic lives and superpowers. Not Your Sidekick had a love tale throughout. It was a super cute and super fascinating love story between Jess and Abby. Abby has some secretive identity to her that makes the story between them only more fascinating and different. I love superhero books, but there are a lot. It was really fun to read a superhero book like one I never have before.
