Debby, I did not expect anyone to care I could n ot get an electrician - I was trying to show that lockdown was hardly imprisonment. I am sorry for your rental issues, but what has that to do with a lockdown? You would be in the same position without it. As for people turned away from hospitals, that is because of the virus is filling up hospitals. If the virus was given unlimited breeding rights the hospitals would be overfilled. In Wuhan to start with there was no lockdown and they were building new 1000 bed hospitals in ten days. NZ couldn't conceivably do that, and it did not want to have an influx of people dying in hospital corridors. Whatever you think the death rate is, it would be very much greater without critical care facilities available.

You may well be right if the WHO spokesperson I heard about this morning is correct... He maintains it's extremely unlikely we can ever develop herd immunity against Covid-19. Then again herd immunity may not suit WHO's vaccination agenda (and the agenda of a lot of others too). I for one have faith in the immune system nature blessed (most of us) with.

I note scientists are now saying the virus is likely to be with us forever (like the flu). Despite their insistence to the contrary, coronavirus is sounding more and more like another flu virus to me.... How does that old saying go? If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and...

Lance, my view is that herd immunity won't save us. Evidence - the flu turns up every year thanks to mutations. The common cold is perpetually with us, and it is mild enough that we don't care, but about a third of colds are caused by coronaviruses. My feeling is that a vaccine won't give perpetual immunity, but if they can develop one that gives seasonal immunity, full or partial, then that changes the game. If enough get the vaccine, then you get your herd immunity effect, and those that prefer not to use the vaccine take their chances. If you believe it is mild like a cold, then the vaccine makes no sense at all and should be rejected. Of course success depends on your being right, but if you are young it should be the right move to reject the vaccine. The old guys have a more serious problem because they have to decide whether this vaccine is actually safe.

Even tho I disagree with virtually all his opinions about the virus measures, I do feel the need to defend him...In that I think perhaps you are misunderstanding Ian, Debby. Think he was just commenting in generally, not specifically about your situ or anyone else's.

But yes, I do agree with you Debby that this virus is not overwhelming our hospitals and they have literally stalled treatments or even surgeries for many other sicknesses. People have commented about finding empty or near empty hospitals all over the world, so something is definitely up.

However, one needs to be able to be able to think "conspiratorially" and not every person is capable of that. Therefore, they are the ones who will never make any connections between all these bizarre 2020 events -- and never see anything nefarious until and unless they are fully imprisoned one day with the military standing outside their door...

Anni, they certainly have! A good friend gave me a political biography for Christmas of the best PM we ever had, elected in 1972, he died in November 1974. He would have been horrified to see this especially as the woman doing all of this claimed to be inspired by him, and has destroyed his party.

And that this will plunge huge sectors of the world-wide economy into serf-like ruin, with all that this portends in terms of additional death and human suffering.

3. Cause greatly increased misery and countless additional deaths in the so-called Global South where many people, rightly or wrongly, depend on the consumption patterns of us relatively fortunate sit-at-homers to make it through the week.

4. Destroy much of what was attractive about urban life as we know it and lead to a real estate collapse of extraordinary proportions, turning even our few remaining showplace cities into crime-ridden reserves of ever more desperate people.

5. Force state and local governments, already struggling before the crisis, and unable to print at money at will like the Feds, to cut their already insufficient budgets at a time when their broke and stressed constituents need those services more than ever.

6. Push “smart” monitoring of our lives, already intolerable for anyone still clinging to memories of freedom in the pre-September 11th world, to the point where most people will no longer understand what people used to know as privacy, intimacy or the simple dignity of being left alone.

7. Train of a generation of children to be fearful and distrustful of others from day one, and to view bending to diktats “to keep them safe”, (no matter how empirically dubious the actual threat to them might be), rather than the courageous pursuit of joy and human fullness, as the key goal in life.

I do believe there is Something Going On. But I'm not sure it is anything more complex than the principle that a frightened populace is an easy to control populace. The news media has been keeping us anxious for decades, and many are controlled by it. Though it may seem at odds with our current government, their interest is the same.

The lockdowns, the distancing, the masks are all intended to separate us from each other in various ways. Physically, obviously, but it is also meant to sever our basic emotional connections. Your neighbors are suspicious - they might be carriers! Even your friends or your family! My best friend won't see me without a mask and six feet distance. I told her not to bother. When we can no longer trust our families, friends, acquaintances, what's left? The government and the media.

Yes, well I'll believe that (or not) when I see what the alternative plan is. Like it or not, NZ has 5 million people and 22 deaths. Multiply 22 by the population of your country and who is doing as well? There are others. I believe China is doing as well, as are some other Asian countries, but most of the countries these advocates believe in are not. Then add in the long term health problems for the 2% who survive but so far are the walking wounded. Finally add in the unknown effects from internal scarred tissue, weakened cardiac strength, weakened renal function, etc. Whether NZ has done right of wrong remains to be determined, and it depends on how you value things. How do you value a life over a bunch of dollars over your inconvenience over prolonged weakened renal function? Feel free to set up a balance sheet so we can decide.

The new normal is permanent not temporary, folks...

Exactly. That's what I was saying the first few weeks when masks were not forced. What is so magical about 6 feet apart? We know the elites like to through that number around. Also, as one woman says, if it is so catchy, why does a swab have to go up into the head to take a test?

If our Prime Monster lets us out of lockdown on Sunday as she's promised (after breaking the promise twice), my language class is back on, but I will be responsible for telling the students to say 2 meters apart from each other, etc. How am I supposed to check their work? I have to keep a list of them and their contact details, which I do anyway, but I will not force them to sit on the other side of the room from me.

Ian J Miller, AN angry woman screamed at me about scarring on the lungs from the plague. I wanted to scream back. 5 months ago, I was diagnosed with scarring on my lungs, which should have been investigated, but hasn't been because it predates Rona by decades. I just hope it's not caused by something dangerous or it will be diagnosed months too late.

That's a horrible situation to be in, Debby, especially as you believe all these measures are unnecessary. And I can see in the eyes of many people enforcing these rules in retail outlets or other public places that they do not believe in the govt measures they're being forced to carry out.

First thing our embarrassing, inexperienced and idiotic PM needs to do is stop saying we are "a team of 5 million". Right now that'd be a team of 4 million only, as Kiwis slowly catch up to the sort of info/data/stats we have been posting and sharing in this group since March... Pretty soon that team will be 3 million or less... Then you end up with a very divided nation.

But right now there's still too many NZ Sheeple blindly trusting...In fact, you never know, there might even be one amongst us in this group :)
