hi! i'm here. i had to buy it but that's ok. i'm gonna hurry up & finish this Fear Street book then i'm here.

I was able to get it from the library as an ebook. Can’t believe it!
I’m starting it this weekend due to hold times.

I think that editors note just spoiled the whole freakin book. It’s in the very front so if yours is like that, I’d skip it. I have the kindle version. I would consider it a major spoiler.

I looked on it more like the “editor” of the writer Sarah was giving a introduction to the journal. I thought it was part of the book when I read it.

I read the preface last night and was thinking the same thing, but it still has over 4/5 stars on GR so I'm assuming it's not going to detract from the story.

May 7th, I agree whippoorwills are bad juju but folks tell me when you hear them it’s safe (from frost) to plant corn. Idk but they are creepy.

My favorite word shows up-phantasmagoria!

Has some traces of "Turn of the Screw" lurking in the background, hiding under the Lovecroftian elements!

Finished chapter 1 last night, heard all about Amanda, and golly gee, as a white hetero chick didn't I learn a few things I didn't know about!!!

I'm just up to June 28th, and I have to admit, I don't really like Sarah too much, I hope she starts revealing some redeeming qualities soon.

Got to the start of June 26th last night. I'm liking the plot of the (view spoiler)[professor and what happened to him. The fact that he specialized in urban legends and occultism gives this book some questions which I love. He was writing a book and then he killed himself? (hide spoiler)] I like the mystery of it.

I'm up to chapter 4. Constance's ghost story is really cool. As well as the story she reads about the guy that built the house. I agree Sarah isn't the best.

I haven't read anything today, this home schooling gig's cramping my reading time!

I've caught up a little tonight, though I had to keep stopping and googling things like the Mercy Brown vampires and who Charles Fort was. I quite like it when authors base their fiction in reality and it leads me down a bit of a rabbit hole.
I remember Adam Nevill did this with Banquet for the Damned and Grady Hendrix's Horrorstor was full of hidden gems.

Yeah I like that too. Wylding Hall does it too with songs. Some of the folk songs mentioned in the book are real ones.

As a little side story, when i was looking up Charles Fort's writing, I found he influenced a lot of later writers, one of them Karl Edward Wagner who wrote the story the short story Sticks which was the inspiration for The Blair Witch movie! Anyway, I found it on YouTube, and the narrator is FANTASTIC! You'd love it Tosh, it's very folklore-horror-ish.

Done! Well that was one of the oddest things I’ve read. I liked it. I think I’ll give it 4 stars, maybe 3.5. But I’m not sure about it. I’ll be glad when someone else finishes it so we can talk about it.

I finished it the other night. Sarah is complex, she's dealing with grief and seems to strongly dislike herself which is one of the reasons she was so negative in her relationship with Amanda. This may explain part of why she commits suicide.

But I'm interested in why the former tenant committed suicide. That was never clear to me.

Sorry ladies, but this one didn't work for me. It turned into a hot mess and I really didn't care by the end. I'm glad you all liked it more and I can see this author has lots of promise. Some of the imagery and creepy things that happened were awesome.

I just didn't like the flow of the book, characters and felt it was longer then it needed to be.

My guess is she's (view spoiler)[losing her mind but I'm still not sure after finishing. I don't mind unreliable main characters but there was a lack of flow, understanding and confusion in this book.
I think it would have affected me so much more if I didn't come out of this scratching my head at the end.
