We invited Andrew Heaton, Host of Alienating the Audience, to join us! Oh Dune… is there any wrong way to enjoy you? Possibly yes. We also wrap up How to Lose the Time War.

Chad (doctorwinters) | 180 comments The SYFY Dune Mini series was much better when I thought of it as a video of a play performance, it had that feel of being on a stage with theater level props and was quite when looked at that way

Jan | 778 comments Thanks for the shout-out to you both!

I must say I really like episodes with guest hosts from time to time, they always bring a different dynamic to the show (not that the show needs shaking up!).

Regarding "Magician: Apprentice" - I assume that has nothing to do with "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", the story with the multiplying brooms fetching water...

In any case, a very fun episode!

Ruth | 1779 comments I must have shouted “Annihilation!” about 12 times but still Veronica didn’t hear me :(

I always get excited to hear the hosts reading out stuff I posted in the forums so thanks for quoting from my gushing post about the time war :)

For those of us outside the US who have the full sized novel Magician it is quite obvious where the delineation is between the split US versions.

Magician has 2 parts:
Book 1: Pug and Tomas. Which is Magician: Apprentice
Book 2: Milamber and the Valheru. Which is Magician: Master

I was standing in my kitchen, saying it after every different name they thought of, ending with me shouting ANNIHILATION! ANNIHILATION! Doesn't that happen in the book too?

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments Veronica reminded me so much of myself this episode, and that kind of forgetfulness runs in my family. When I was a kid helping my mum in the kitchen she would always ask me for the "green oooh dah, thingiemagig, whatchamacall it" and I would hand over our green plastic colander. One time she asked for the colander and I was stumped for a moment!

Re. Marmite, it's pretty common in the UK to compare polarising things to marmite. :) Oh, and I've never met a Brit who cared, but a few Aussie friends would be most offended to hear their precious vegemite compared to marmite. Apparently, theirs is far superior. I've never tried vegemite though. *shrug*

Actually marmite isn't too bad. Vegemite is better though ;-)

Melanie | 109 comments The most recent episode of Imaginary Worlds (https://www.imaginaryworldspodcast.org/) is an overview of the Solar Punk genre.

Drats, beat me to it. :p

I still hate the name “solarpunk”. It doesn’t convey the idea of “positive eco-friendly stories” at all.

John (Taloni) Taloni (johntaloni) | 5196 comments Listening now, and - Veronica! For the love of God, read on a Kindle app with black background and white text! You don't need a Kindle, the app will install on any device. You can even read on your phone. No headlamp required. Okay, ebook required, but those are easy to acquire.

There was an amusing Vegemite/Marmite battle during the Ashes last summer (in England). https://www.famouscampaigns.com/2019/...

Somehow I missed this at the time, thanks for sharing!

Paul Fagan | 171 comments Veronica forgetting warmed my heart. Everybody's brain is turning to mush these days.
I heard an interview with Martha Wells (Murderbot Diaries author) on the Coode Street podcast, and she also kept forgetting things, so you are in good company!

"Solarpunk is a genre of Speculative Fiction that focuses on craftsmanship, community, and technology powered by renewable energy, wrapped up in a coating of Art Nouveau blended with African and Asian aesthetics. "
