Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Did you make any?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I don't make resolutions per se, but would like to walk more and watch more films at the pictures. Maybe I should stop buying books and dvds until I've got through the ones I already own

Jim | 21809 comments No I didn't make any. I did once contemplate something like Desley suggested but gave up on it as the obvious madness that it is :-)

message 5: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I didn't make any as such but I'm aiming to get more sleep this year and try and keep my flat more organised and tidy. Hopefully the first will make the second easier!

You did so! I read them on Jonathan's blog!

They may cancel each other out, though.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I wanna get more stamps in my new passport in 2015.

It's so empty!

funny that ;-)
Mind you Jonathan promised us he'd put our names before a readership that was educated, erudite and even errant. Nice to see he's a man of his word.

Might pinch that, sounds a good plan

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Only one: to finish writing this current book. Mind, I've said that at least once a week for the past three months.

Might pin..."

Feel free :)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Take your time and do it right, David.

As fast as you can.

So many charmers in this group.

Lol I agree with Patti here :-P

I've not made any in years I might this year but it's unlikely :-)

message 15: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments I made the resolution to start drinking real ales again instead of lager: cheaper, tastier and I drink them more slowly, so I won't stick away so many :)

message 16: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Actually that's a good resolution Andrew. Certainly some years ago I decided I was only going to drink Beer that was worth drinking.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No one doing dry January, then?

message 18: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments My birthday's slap bang in the middle of January on the 17th, so going dry never appealed...

And cheers, Jim! I fell out of the cask ale habit after a few too many trips to pubs who don't keep their beers properly and serve them with that distinct orange squash flavour of cleaning fluid...

Probably don't drink enough to make a difference ;-)

Certainly not enough to need a month off

That is not good. I find one of the pleasures of going for a meal with family is to have a nice pint of decent beer with it as well.
Problem is I meet up with mates in London sometimes and then decent beer can be a struggle, but even London is getting better (but no cheaper :-( )

David Manuel | 1112 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "No one doing dry January, then?"

A dry January? What's the point of that?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I can't see the point, personally.

message 23: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "I can't see the point, personally."

I can think of many health benefits! The NHS suffers because of out-of-control drinking.

On a less serious note, my resolution was to stop swearing. I got to twenty past midnight on January 1st and thought 'f**k it'.

Well, I didn't resolve not to swear in my head!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah, all those fcuking drunks clogging the health services, eh Jonathan? ;)

Nevermind. I have private health insurance. :)

When they say that drink is responsible for such and such a percentage of hospital admissions, I often wonder whether they include maternity

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh Jim.

Sex is always on your mind, isn't it? ;)

message 27: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Having just been scanning 400 ewes it was more the after effects that I was interested in :-)

message 28: by Sue (new)

Sue (nzsue) | 6 comments I have decided to drink less white wine
and
to drink more red.

Going well so far!

message 29: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments I also made a vague resolution to walk to work more often, particularly as TfL just stuck up their prices again. I've been back to work two days, and walked both of them. On a roll!

message 30: by Joshua (new)

Joshua Steelman (js_novels) | 11 comments I'm going to read more, though that's something I avoid when I'm working on a book. So, I'm going to read a lot more before the work commences. I really must finish A Memory of Light. I'm only partway through, and it's been on hold for a year already. Not an ideal way to read a book, especially a beast like that.

message 31: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Smugly delighted to say this year, for a change, I won't have to put 'lose weight' as we've been doing the 5:2 diet since June and I'm just 3 pounds off target weight!
Think I need to have a 'keep everything organised and tidy' resolution though. Lets see how long that lasts!

message 32: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Well done with the weight loss Karen!

I've broken my resolution to only work my contracted 3 days by working 6 this week. I have no willpower!

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments David wrote: "A dry January? What's the point of that?"

An old friend of mine always did February as it was shorter. Still, no point at all.

message 34: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments I make the same resolution each year: criticise nobody, complain about nothing.

I'm doing better than I usually do ... but I suspect that's because I've spent most of January in bed with a cold.
