maybe 6 years ago, i read this book about these three teens in a town. there was something about a forest, and a ghost boy. i can’t remember much besides that there may have been an abusive father on the ghost boy’s part, and the male protagonist agreed to a deal with the ghost boy (who was causing quite a bit of trouble in the town because he was lonely).
it ended with the male protagonist dying in a hole (to join the boy) in the forest the ghost boy had died in, with the boy killing him by dropping a heavy rock on his head.
