SciFi and Fantasy Book Club discussion

Hello, I'm looking for the books (SciFi/Fantasy) with a good character development. I'd like to see his/her rising from simple worker/no one to the greatest leader/warrior/saviour...

PS: please, do not recommend books with "sexual assault & rape"

Try the Farseer trilogy (starts with Assassin's Apprentice) by Robin Hobb, and if you enjoy it, the rest of the epic Realm of the Elderlings series. Great books on every level, and especially the character development. The protagonist starts out as a stable boy and then grows into a world-changing destiny.

Book of the Ancestor, starting with Red Sister
(from orphan to warrior, good character development, lots of violence, but no sexual assault)

The Twelve Kingdoms series, starting with The Twelve Kingdoms: Sea of Shadow
(from ordinary student to queen, awesome character development, no sexual assault)

Maybe could work? The MC starts at a really low point as a bad luck magnet...

I was also considering as the book starts in a point in the MC's life where nothing major is happening but he's known for some events that happened off-screen prior to the story.

The Warrior's Apprentice. Space opera with an absolutely bonkers career trajectory. (Warning: no sexual assault in the book, but mentions of minor character having suffered through rape in the past.)

I have not read this but I am pretty sure that The Hero and the Crown (which is technically a sequel but can be read alone) also counts.

it's not quite as dramatic in terms of progression, but yes, it would work!

Stephen King is definitely a name I would name when it comes to character development.

"The Way of King's" is so good in fact when you read something you might thing "Well... Kaladin is not going to appreciate this development!". Sure enough, Kaladin doesn't.

How about the Legend of Drizzt forgotten Realms series By R.A. Salvatore. one of the best series for which I've read for over character development as well as for storytelling

Also, Jonathan Moeller Ghost series which is another excellent series with great character development.

As for the Drizzt series, I've read every one in that series and as for the Ghost series I've read every one that he's put out so far and I'm waiting for the next one to come out. As for the ghost series, it's not about the Boo kind of ghost The main character is trained to be a female assassin after her parents are killed.

I had almost forgotten about this one here an excellent selection Ii I might say so myself.

Something left field - the development of Eet in the books The Zero Stone and Uncharted Stars by Andre Norton is quite interesting. Great story telling also.
