jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I've set up a poll for the date of the February Toppler. The theme is Mystery Date, so the Toppler will either begin or end on Valentine's Day.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Was mystery date also a board game. Seems like I saw commercials during saturday morning cartoons. Probably interupted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to air a girls commercial. Eewww. Lol

Well, we're going back to the 60's, so I see no reason why you can't be stuck in October. Although you might have problems finding teammates now. LOL
Doesn't this mean you still have vacation to look forward to? Or maybe you'll get to have it twice.

message 11: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I don't think I should have it twice. Lexx went back to work today and I slept in until 1pm. That's unseemly.

message 12: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Well that commercial was just a bit before my time. Either there was a more modern game or commercial back in the 80's-90's.

There probably is an updated version of the game - this version was all I found. But the song's the best part :)

message 15: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have never heard of the Mystery Date Game, Jmom. I cannot recall ever seeing the commercial either. I may have been a little too young then to care or pay attention at the time of that commercial. I would have been 9 or almost 10 then. My parents had gotten divorced and I had changed schools. It was not a happy time for me. The only use I had for boys was to be allowed to play on their kickball team. I was very tall for my age and towered over most of the boys at school.

message 16: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Only thing I remember about the muster date game is from a movie..Tim Allen's ex-wife in the movie, The Santa Claus, wanted that game as a child :-)

message 17: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Interesting, Stephanie. I think I have only watched that film once. I can't recall if we ever saw it at the theater, but maybe. The only part I remember was when he started gaining weight. :0). Good memory!!!

message 18: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Thanks, Cherie, but I have to admit that I watch the movie every year :) one of my favorites :)

I was too young to be interested in it too, but for some reason the song has stayed with me.

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments I laughed at the commercial the part where the guy was a dud. Lol so funny. Has anyone ever played this??

message 22: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Oh jesus. I just watched that commercial. That's horrifying.

message 25: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59953 comments Those girls look way too young to be considering dating. The commercial is horrifying in the message it was sending to young girls.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Tasha☺ wrote: "I laughed at the commercial the part where the guy was a dud. Lol so funny. Has anyone ever played this??"

Uh, yes **raises hand warily**

I played it a couple of times over at a neighbor-friend's house. I was in 4th grade or so, I think. It was stupid, but we had fun playing it. We didn't take it seriously.

I never saw any commercials for the game - until I watched the one from that link today. We were definitely about the age of the girls in that ad.

We only played it a couple of times because it wasn't that entertaining. We spent a lot more time running around outside, playing massive games of hide and seek with other neighbor kids. Fun times : )

message 27: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Hey, remember it was the 60's - this was a time when The Women's Liberation Movement was really getting started in tackling a lot of issues. Girls had big-chested Barbie and boys had G.I. Joe. I think the commercial was trying to appeal to young girls dreaming of when they would be old enough to date. The MRS degree was still very popular :)

message 28: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Dreaming about dating... that pretty much sums up my status thru high school graduation :S

But still, I thought the game was kinda cute. I'd forgotten all about it. A little blast from the past, lol!

Oh - you do not know how much this made me laugh, Jmom. The summer between my 5th and 6th grade, we went to live with my mother and her new husband. Yeah - I had a big chested barbie doll. She was dressed in her western outfit and I told my sisters that they could not touch her! All I cared about then was mowing lawns (I was too young to babysit) to earn enough money to buy a softball glove. I went door to door draging that darn lawnmower all over the neighbor hood. Most of the time, the women who answered the door were appalled and said NO. They were afraid that I would hurt myself with the lawn mower. They were usually astonished that I could even use it.

Tasha Great story, Cherie! :)

message 34: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Marie - Love that idea!

Cherie - Great story. My Barbie got her nose rubbed off when she fell out of a tree while being kidnapped by outlaws and dragged down the sidewalk :)

Wow, those same outlaws visited my backyard "fort" and rode off with my Miss Revlon doll. (view spoiler)

Janice (jamasc) | 59953 comments LOL! Somehow I think Barbie got the raw end of the deal. At least Miss Revlon kept her nose intact.

message 39: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments But there's something about Miss Revlon that creeps me out :)

Yeah I think it's her woman's body with a baby doll face. She did have great clothes.

(view spoiler)

It's like a child playing dress-up with facial tissue stuffed in her bra.☻

Sarah | 18550 comments Never seen a Miss Revlon doll before and I have to say I'm pleased. She is scary!

I had a barbie and I tried cutting her hair but I couldn't get it straight so she ended up with a buzz cut. Guess I was never destined to be a hairdresser.

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments What is Mystery Date? Is it like Blind Date? A TV show or a game?

message 43: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Ah, I see there are youtube links. I will watch them when I'm not on the bus! But I mean is it a board game like Monopoly where we have to go round the board to do the toppler?

We've been discussing the board game.

jaxnsmom has yet to tell what it means for the Toppler.

message 45: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I have never seen or heard of a Revlon Doll before. That is really cool... in a slightly frightening way. That first picture I couldn't help but think "why is that little girl in lingerie?! Wait, she has an old lady haircut and boobies... so not a little girl? I'm confused." lol

Thanks, Almeta - I was trying to make sense of the discussion, but wasn't sure if it was a board game or a TV show that the toppler was based on. I get the feeling that the Topplers are always supposed to be mysterious at first and we are not supposed to understand them until the rules are posted - but I always want to understand them right away! :-)

message 47: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Haha - I just watched the commercial. Well, I wasn't quite born yet in the 60s, and I have no idea if that game even came to the UK anyway. I've never heard of it, or any game like it!
