Londa (londalocs) | 1526 comments Our theme this month is New Beginnings.

Read at least one(1) book with a New Beginnings theme. A character gets a fresh start to life. A race of people being anew. Any book where someone or something begins anew will fit the theme.

You can use:

*The Cover
*The Title
(The Word NEW, START, BEGINNING, FRESH, etc)
*An event in the book

You can list your choices and goals here and/or on the widget.

JANUARY CHALLENGE WIDGET

Have fun!

Linda | 172 comments Mission accomplished. I read The Miniaturist

It is about a young woman in the 17th century, leaving her home and family and starting her new married life. This book had all the potential in the world. It was very readable and, at times, extremely engaging, but, in the end, it was a big letdown.

Here is my review.

Shannon I just realized the book I'm reading counts. Any Known Blood by Lawrence Hill. The book uncovers the lives of 5 generations of legendary men. Langston Cane the Fifth feels like he hasn't lived up to his father's expectations. He's also a little disappointed with himself. After getting fired from his job, he packs of his things, leaves Canada, and sets out to do what he really wanted to do, write a book documenting his family history.

Anastasia Kinderman | 942 comments What were everyone's favorite reads this month?

message 14: by Linda (new)

Linda | 172 comments I read a lot in January. I had a few favorites. I read Jane Eyre for the first time. It was wonderful. I, also, finished The Collected Autobiographies of Maya Angelou. That was a fantastic book set. I can, also, highly recommend The Great Divorce. It was delightfully clever.

Onni Hi Linda,

If you liked Jane Eyre, you should look at the modern adaptation on youtube. It is called the Autobiography of Jane Eyre. I think they did a nice job, but you could see what you think since the book is fresh for you. Adapting classics for youtube is an interesting trend. I think it is a good way to pull in people (especially young people) who normally wouldn't read classics.

If you want to look at it here is a link to Jane's tumbler page: http://eyrequotes.tumblr.com

And here is a link to the youtube channel:
