Theme 265 - Right team, hopefully the worst of the virus is over and we're going on a group outing. Let's put together the best-ever playlist for our road trip! - Val

---------------------------------------------------------------------
*Cream Of Rounds - Summer - Commences 28th June - 5 rounds*
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Theme 266 - Freak Out! Uncut magazine's list of 101 "weirdest albums of all time". There's at least one single A-side on the list (step forward 'Scratch'). The reasons for weirdness aren't always evident from the titles alone (although the exceptions should be obvious), and there's one which you'll never find on discogs; the Merzbow at #100 is actually a written-off Mercedes previously the property of his dutch label boss, with a copy of Merzbow's album "Noisembryo" hardwired into the ignition, so it plays when the car is turned on. He tried auctioning this unique item and got zero bids! - Tim https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/thread...
Theme 267 - Great instrumental breaks (must be within a "song") - SussexWelsh
Theme 268 - Let's Stick Together; any song with a word which references a method of sticking one thing to another (join/t, glue, mortar, tie/d, bond, weld, etc ad infinitum) - Brass Neck
Theme 269 - "In The Mood For A Moog" - Songs featuring the Moog synth - theDuke
Theme 270 - "The Happy Organ" - Tracks featuring an organ, the keyboard instrument, of any type. - KJS
Theme 271 - "It's Raining Cats & Dogs" - song titles containing the word(s) cat(s) or dog(s) (or both): state your allegiance if you wish ;-) - Helen

Hullo......hallo...and er....hello! :)

Right..now then..i thought the next one was gunna be Val's 'after' pandemic road trip theme..but i see that's next week. For this week, we've got a lovely feel goody one from Nick. So, our retired former host would like you to pick something for his theme, which is:

'Any song that is upbeat and likely to make the listener have their spirits raised.'

A straightfoward one then..so that'll be a whole lotta happy music coming soon folks! Let's 'ave 'em then please, as you know how to, thanks.

And ..er..given that laptop is still trying my patience (but not for much longer, cos i got a new one coming innit..hooray! Only took 4 months to finally make my mind up.....that's pretty good going for an OCD austistic bugger like me!!) Hopefully, i'll still be around on Wednesday evening to give you music junkies your next fix! :)

Until then, then.......

This always conjures the image of standing on the veranda of a clifftop white modernist villa on a sunny summer’s day with a gentle breeze looking out over a sparkling sea.

In The Summertime is a deceptive track. On the face of it, it's a fun, lazy, kick-back song about the carefree joys of youth in the summer, but some of the lyrics are 'of the time' and would be considered very un-PC today. Apart from the irresponsible 'Have a drink, have a drive' line, there's the breath-takingly wrong:
'If her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal.
If her daddy's poor, just do what you feel.'
Whaaaat?!

The title does fit the theme Brass, but not the song itself which is what I asked for. Not trying to be overly fussy or awkward but I can't accept this nomination, sorry.

To me that says that a 'posh girl' will have cultural norm expectations of what a boy should do. A 'poor girl' will be happy whether you take her to the flicks, go for a (less posh) meal, sit in the park and watch the world go by, or just have an evening in front of the telly (as in 'Up The Junction'). Doesn't necessarily mean gettin' jiggy wid'it. 😂

Even the 'have a drink, have a drive' line doesn't have to be a set of instructions to do the first then the second. Could be just two suggestions seperate from each other. You'd have to ask Ray Dorset about that. Nowadays he'd probably bend the knee to the twitter outrage mob and beg forgiveness, even if he actually meant what I suggested when the song was written. 🤪

The less 'PC' the better. Probably won't vote for it though, as like 'Please Don't Touch' last time, I've heard it so many times.

Depends on how you're interpreting that line. A richer family is going to expect you to take your prospective date out in a fashion they are comfortable with under a stricter social convention, a poorer family may just be happy that you take your date out and treat them nicely whatever you choose. Your own "prejudices" may colour that differently to mine which always thought it meant let's do whatever we want! Take a double decker bus through Europe etc

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Mungo Jerry played at my brother's university (this was around 1978). When the intro to In the Summertime started everyone cheered. As Ray Dorset stepped up to the microphone, several began to sing "In the summertime, when the weather is hot..." but Dorset himself sang this version:

Your link comes up with video unavailable, this one works and still has the hint of nip-slip;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqS_z...

Or maybe it was this one which the (presumably male) uploader helpfully added the words 'flopping breasts'?

Both benefit, I find, from hitting the mute button.
