It’s clear that there is a serious mistrust of the government that permeates seemingly everything, including medicines and other drug therapies. Why do you suppose these people were so opposed to simple reliefs, not even opting for herbal remedies? Did it speak to something else?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments It fit in with the paranoia of that particular group.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I agree with Charlene. Some people see conspiracies in everything. It's ridiculous.

I can stretch my brain to get why they would be wary of prescription drugs (and that’s a big stretch) but herbal remedies? These people were demented. Pete dispensed policies that suited his needs. I’ll bet when he got ill he sneaked off and got treatment.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments He also probably had his own stash of pills for his own use. I wonder where some of the items in Mercy's kit ended up. They weren't at the box that Beckett produced.

That’s a GREAT point, Robin. He certainly didn’t practice what he preached.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I think it was another form of control. I hold your life in my hands. You have to come to me for every little thing even headache medications.

Robin I think Mercy's supplies were with Pete. He wanted to make sure he had supplies handy if he needed them.

I agree Sharon. It's about "control". Pete made sure these people couldn't so much as breathe without his permission or "grace". And fed their paranoia in every way. I think they were very gullible and saw him as their "savior".

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) Again, agree with all your previous comments. Nothing is logical about a cult and its leader's thinking. It's all about mind control and power. People who get caught up usually have very serious psychological problems.
