message 205: by Kazen (last edited Jan 29, 2015 03:12AM) (new)

Kazen It turns out my husband will be out of town for the first weekend of the Toppler, woo-hoo!

...I mean, how sad, being stuck alone with the cat for a few days. Perhaps I can find a book or five to console me.

~grin~

message 206: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Lol, Kazen :-)

Jessica Elizabeth | 95 comments haha Kazen! I've been working on getting my husband to go on a wknd bachelor party trip for the last few days of the toppled. No luck so far. :-)

Author new to me: The Return of the Native
Mc has job i wish my partner had: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Adam and Eve: The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales
Samson and Delilah: Anne of Green Gables
Royce or Hadrian and Janice: Enough: Finding More by Living with Less
Romeo and Juliet: Angelfall
Bonnie and Clyde: Odd Thomas
June and Ward Cleaver: The Road
Will Arnett and Amy Poehler: Sideways Stories from Wayside School
Gene Roddenberry and Majel Barrett: I, Robot
Bella and Edward: The Lovely Bones
Lois Lane and Superman: Angela's Ashes

message 209: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4026 comments Jennifer, there are some great books on your list, but I think a few of them are under 175 pages.

message 210: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments All the needed bonus spots are filled Jennifer so really it is whatever a person wantsto read at this point. It is a free for all

message 211: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Isn't this the truth? But a good truth :)

Just in case - Cocaine Blues won't qualify for an island since Australia is a continent.

Welcome to the team Jennifer :)

As Lanelle pointed out some of your book wouldn't qualify because of the page count:
Book with gunplay or other weapons: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Mc has job i wish my partner had: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Will Arnett and Amy Poehler: Sideways Stories from Wayside School

Also, as the aim of the game is to read as many books as possible I would advise you to not read something like The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales for Adam and Eve because 880 pages would take quite a while to read :)

As Travis said, all the bonus slots had been taken but to free myself up from one of them I'm going to ask you take the Shoes slot with your choice (Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail) so it will free me up a little.
Can you confirm that's ok please.
Otherwise your other reads can be what you like.

message 215: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Daniel, how many books will you be reading and for which categories?

message 216: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Lynn, I can do that.

message 217: by Lynn (last edited Jan 29, 2015 04:52PM) (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Jennifer wrote: "Lynn, I can do that."

ha ha ha ha, now that I've finally started looking at specific books I definitely have a book with shoes that I'll be reading next month. So you're off the hook!

Read what you like Jennifer (within the categories of course) :)

Ignore me, turns out the book is 174 pages. So annoying to be one page short! Please stick to the original plan of reading the category.

message 218: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie One week to go till the toppler starts :) can't wait for the 7th :) hope everyone has a great weekend!

message 219: by Kazen (last edited Feb 02, 2015 09:39PM) (new)

Kazen How is everyone's gofering going? My holds have started to come in so I have some titles sitting on my kindle, taunting me. -_^ Kindred Rites and Ella Minnow Pea are first; here's hoping another book or two comes through before the weekend!

Ooo, I nearly forgot! The e-library usually gets a ton of new books at the beginning of the month so there may be some gems in there, too.

~madly refreshes the library website~

Danny (dannyx) | 48 comments Stephanie wrote: "Daniel, how many books will you be reading and for which categories?"

Sorry for the late response Stephanie. Didn't see the message earlier. I plan to read a minimum of 6 books but realistically I should be able to do about 10. I plan to focus mainly on the "substitute yourself for one person and keep the other to be your date?" category considering everyone else is mainly focusing on the bonus categories. Still gophering for my final to read list but I'll post it here when completed (most likely by this Thursday after I finish purchasing a few ebooks)

message 221: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Awesome! Thanks, Daniel :) hope everyone is having fun gophering! I have my 3 books ready..I need to recheck out of one them though. It is nice that the library allows that, at least if it is an older book :)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments What did that ground weasel say yesterday. 6 more weeks of winter?

message 226: by Danny (last edited Feb 03, 2015 05:20AM) (new)

Danny (dannyx) | 48 comments The groundhogs said it was too blimey cold and we should all go find a warm spot and sleep and stop waking him up. Lol
At least that's the way I interpreted the 'love nip' Jimmy gave the Wisconsin mayor

message 227: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Sounds like good advice

message 228: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Yeah..6 more weeks of winter..don't tell the weather here though..we have a high of around 50 tomorrow than back down into the 30's the next day..our winter weather has issues :)

message 229: by Danny (new)

Danny (dannyx) | 48 comments Wow...a high of 50...the stuff of dreams! Heck I'd take a high of 30 right now!!! I honestly think that if Canadian winters get any worse I'm gonna have a polar bear as a neighbour by next winter.

message 230: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Woke to -26 which I think is -26 in both °F and °C

Not quite, but close. -40 is where F & C meet. And that's damned cold regardless of which system you're in.

You know it's cold when your nostril hairs freeze when you breathe in.

message 233: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Thats funny Janice I read the unit converter wrong. -40 is correct. But with windchill we were in the -35 range but after a point cold is cold and doesnt matter any more-25 or -50 feels about the same

message 234: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) It's been cold enough here that when our dog goes outside, even for just 30 seconds he's got icicles hanging from his mouth, lol.

message 235: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Brr, Jennifer! That is cold!! Hopefully it warms up for everyone soon :)

message 236: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4026 comments 48 hours until the Toppler begins! Right? I can't wait.

message 237: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Yep starts at midnight on the 7th :-) I have my audio set, my kindle book downloaded and the other book re-checked out from the library :)

Has your grand baby made its debut yet, Lanelle??? I bet you are getting excited :)

Let's go, Team!!!!!!!

Emotions, smile, cheer photo cheerlie-sleephappy.gif

message 238: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4026 comments I think the Toppler starts at noon on the 7th, which would be 10:00 am here in Arizona.

No grandbaby yet, which is fine because the parents haven't decided on a name yet. They want a 4 letter boy's name that starts with a G.

message 239: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Oops noon :) thanks for the correction :)

message 240: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Gabe is all I know. Well I know a few peoole named Gabe but only 4 letter G I know

My daughter, Glenna (who was named for her great-grandfather, Glenn) voted for Glen. There's also Gage, Greg and Grey, my favorites. Grey Layton. Doesn't that sound good?

message 243: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments My first thought was Grey. I had a friend who's son is named Greyson.

message 244: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4026 comments That's 2 votes for Grey. Too bad grandmothers can't name the babies.

message 245: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Never thought about Greg and grey is one of my favorite literary characters

message 246: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments 5pm start for me; which is annoying when you have to wait for the whole day but it's nice that you have the day to read on the last day.

I vote for Grey too, Grey Layton sounds really good.

I have a brother named Gary, as well. He's the sibling just older than me.

That's 3 votes for Grey. Do you think my son-in-law will be impressed enough to use Grey if I tell him my Toppler team's decision?

message 248: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments He's my next sibling up in age too :)

I can't see how he can not be impressed? ;)

I'm not sure if the parents have discussed using the name Gene. It's a good name and I'm certain there won't be many in his school class by that name.
