1) Josephine Baker's Last Dance by Sherry Jones (historical fiction) 365 pages. Source: Goodreads Giveaway Started: 9/5 Finished: 10/2
Why Read: I'm very interested in knowing more about Josephine Baker and I think that Sherry Jones is a very good writer. I'm sorry that it took me this long to get to it. It's a 2018 release.
Comments: It was surprising to learn that Josephine Baker fought against segregation in the U.S., though she spent most of her time in France. Who could blame her? I gave it a B+
2)Songs from the Deep by Kelly Powell (YA paranormal mystery) 194 pages. Source: Library Started: 10/3 Finished: 10/4
Why Read: I really liked reading A Song Below Water which is a novel about Black Sirens. In this book the Sirens are accused of murder.
Comments: The concept really won me over. In this book Sirens are like wolves, a threatened species subject to prejudice. The protagonists are advocates for Sirens who want to protect them. This is the best mystery I've read in 2020 so far. Rated A.
3)The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Picoult
(contemporary fiction) Source: Net Galley Started: 10/4 Finished: 10/10
Why Read: After reading a really good mystery, I looked for another good read. Jodi Picoult has rarely disappointed me. This deals with a survivor of an airplane crash who has a mid-life crisis.
Comments: She is trying to choose between two professions and two men. See my review at https://shomeretmasked.blogspot.com/2... I gave it a B. I liked it but there were times when I wondered why she got involved with either of those men.
4)The Engineer's Wife by Tracey Enerson Wood (historical fiction) 344 pages. Source: Library Started: 10/10 Finished: 10/11
Why Read: This is amazing! The chief engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge asked his wife Emily to step in and take over the project under his guidance because he was injured. I had no idea!
Comments: I read this on my birthday. Emily was brilliant, but the world she lived in wasn't worthy of her. Yes, it's historically accurate. It was like that, but I hated that she had to put up with it. So I gave it a C+
