The is the 26th Cat Who book, and is from 2004. If you aren't up to date on the Cat Who series, the main characters are Jim Qwilleran a former reporter from Chicago who now lives in Moose Country, 400 miles north of everywhere. And his two cats, Koko and Yum Yum, Siamese cats. The cats are instrumental in solving mysteries, usually from Koko's noises and activities.

In this story, we open at a large event similar to the opening of the Capone vault, if you remember that from Geraldo days. In the same way, the chest which may have contained treasure did in fact, contain nothing.

The mystery so far is the mysterious death of an unknown person, shot through the head, execution-style. Qwill will be doing the investigating, along with the cats.

I'm only partially into this first section, so more will be forthcoming.

A new book store; I miss those days! Story is off to a nice start and is proving to be a gentle mystery for these crazy times. Much appreciated, greatly needed. Thanks, Pghfan!

Anyone know how Qwill got his inheritance? State where Moose County resides? I seem to have missed those details.

Tina and others: Qwill inherited from a distant relative, contingent on his moving and residing in Moose County (where most of the stories take place). He has the money (though we don't know how much, it is a HUGE amount) in a charitable foundation.

It seems clear we were misled by the person making the list identifying this as a Thanksgiving mystery. Yes, there are turkeys, but the time is June.

And the start of a new book store sounds wonderful.

Hrmph, on it taking place in June. Maybe there will be a "five months later" scenario to bring us to Nov. or there about.

Would've loved to see a sketch of Qwill's digs. Intriguing, the barn/home concept.

Qwill's digs are described from time to time throughout the series. It does indeed sound like an amazing place.

Indeed, Pghfan! And as for the body, was it perp's intention to commit the deed during festivities' excitement or did it just happen to occur at that time? Like maybe a lover luring object of desire away from crowd for an intimate moment and then it goes awry? I haven't read far along enough to learn more about nature of crime.

I'm not sure I like the name for the new book store. Seems more fitting for a nautical themed or map shop. lol

Tina, I think they are calling attention to the ship that sunk with the empty treasure which was just opened.

I get the connection, Pghfan, I just don't like it for a book store. But that's just me. I'd like something with a bookish connotation. Or name it after the cat they may have as mascot.

>^..^< - I second that!!

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments I'm caught up! I think maybe the aforementioned list maker went solely by the title, Mark!

I'm listening to this, and the narrator is doing a great job. I read several books in the series (the first 12 or so, I think) years and years ago, so I'm familiar with Qwill, kitties, etc. It's definitely cozy, which I like, and I'm wondering where we're going with the murder.

Yes, same here, Nicole. Not much mention of clues or investigation so far.

Lots of cozy backdrop to enjoy. Love the barn, cabin on the lake, small town charm.

I'm not good with the keyboard things, either!

I think the background of the town, the recurring characters and the charm of the place is the hook in these stories. The mystery is somewhat secondary.

I'm very limited in my skill of adding cute things to posts. I do many doo-dad repeats. lol

Well, if I can't travel presently, I can escape via first class living room, cafe seating. It's all good, Pghfan.

I agree. It's a very comfortable read.
