Sacha Gilbert | 28 comments The Lie (directed by Veena Sud) was a movie that has been recently added to Amazon Prime Video, but was premiered in 2018. It is a psychological thriller and a remake of the 2015 German film We Monsters.

The story of this movie is that Kayla (played by Joey King) and her father, Jay, (played by Peter Sarsgaard) are driving in the car, on their way to a retreat arranged by Kayla's ballet school. On the way, Kayla notices her best friend, Brittany, waiting at the bus stop. Her father pulls over and they discover that she had gotten into an argument with her father, so she was going to take the bus to the same retreat. They offer her a ride and she accepts. Making a stop, Brittany and Kayla go into the woods, but when they don't return for a few minutes, Jay goes searching for them. He finds Kayla sitting on the ledge of a bridge, looking shocked, and asks where Brittany went. Kayla claims to have pushed her off, which leads to Jay fleeing the scene with Kayla, unsure of what to do. These actions lead to a mess even deeper, with Brittany's father getting involved as well. No spoilers, but there was a "plot twist" at the end that I could see coming from the beginning of the movie.

The acting, in my opinion, was mediocre. There was nothing outstanding about it, but it wasn't terrible. The concept of the story seems interesting, but the way it was executed in this movie wasn't that great. Either way, if you are looking for something to watch, this isn't a bag idea.

3/5 stars
