Valerie Brown | 885 comments I would like to fit The Sea, The Sea into my reading for December. I'll see how it goes!

Gail (gailifer) | 2181 comments I actually happen to own both physical books which is extremely rare for me so I am hoping to read them in December.

For December my reading plans are
TBR takedown: Money, a Suicide note
BOTM: The Sea, The Sea
4th Qtr., Our Mutual Friend

Once again I will not finish the Annual read. I haven't for the last several years. If they don't come in audible. I just can't keep up. So next year. I need to work on finishing so probably won't even fool myself with ambitious plans of reading the annual book. I really want to read it, don't own it, and it doesn't come in audio yet.

I have ordered both BOTMs from the library I will be reading my TBR takedown and Our Mutual Friend.

Like Kristel I will not be able to finish Monkey because volume 4 has gone missing from the library and I can't find a reasonably priced English version anywhere.

Can't believe next week it is December!!

Jamie Barringer (Ravenmount) (ravenmount) | 555 comments I don't own either BOTM for December, so no BOTMs for me for the rest of the year. I may actually get to Dickens though, finally. I REALLY hope we get interlibrary loan back in 2021 sometime so I can more easily get copies of books our library doesn't own again.

My TBR book in December will be The Tin Drum, by Grass, so I'll be reading that. I may also finish a few other random List books, but nothing definite yet. I'll be planning my 2021 TBR shelf, and trying to decide what I'd like to buddy read in January (assuming we still will be doing the buddy read option in 2021), since I have read all of the Graham Greene books on the list already. I'm leaning towards War with the Newts, which my sister says is awesome, so if I am hoping to use that one as a buddy read, I should not be reading it in December.

War with the Newts is awesome!

I assume that the buddy read will continue but you have to pick from one of the books in the authors that are from the list that we voted from.

Oh, ok, That makes sense.

message 10: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2181 comments I think I will actually finish the annual read if all goes according to plan (and seeing as this is 2020 that is not even close to a given). I will try to read both BOTM and my TBR - a Pale View of the Hills.

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) No BOTM for this month.
No TBR since my #12 is a second book in a trilogy.
Didn't keep up on the yearly.

hmmm, a pattern is developing ...

I would like to finish The Falling Man. I started it earlier
this year and was really doing well on it.

I have both BOTMs for Jan 2021 so am going to catch up on all
the backlogged projects so I can begin again in 2021.

Pip | 1822 comments My TBR, Invisible Man
Both BOTM
Our Mutual Friend, which I have yet to start
AND Books 2,3,&4 of Journey to the West
BTW I have cancelled Christmas
and I am almost sure I have not made any mistakes in choosing these books!

I'll start December by finishing Our Mutual Friend (I just started the 4th book). Then go through my TBR (Catcher in the Rye) and the BOTM I own (The Sea, The Sea). If time permits, I might sneak in a few short reads before the start of 2021.

message 14: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2181 comments Pip, I know that you are a fast reader and that you have canceled Christmas but you might want to reevaluate your December plan....Perhaps not reading both BOTMs would be more realistic. (Tongue firmly placed in cheek)

message 15: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tstan) | 559 comments I've read the BOTMs, and finished Our Mutual Friend. I'll read The Wars (TBR) and try to read the rest of my TBR list this month- they're all short, thank goodness. If I accomplish that, I'll have met my goal of reading at least 10 list books a month for the year.

Pip | 1822 comments And At Swim Two Boys arrived today. Because it is still November elsewhere I have given myself 24 hours to finish it!

Because of life has been in an upheaval. You actually have 5 days to finish the book.

message 18: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments I dropped everything else to read it. What a pleasure!

Amanda Dawn | 1679 comments Well, it was a bad November and early start to December for me both reading wise (haven't gotten any done in a few weeks) and life wise. Well, mostly thesis work going abysmally-wise and getting burned out, that and my parents are in the "Maritime Bubble" in Canada and I'm not, so I won't be seeing them for the holidays. But, my brother is coming and I'm really looking forward to reading a lot and having a relaxing couple weeks off. I'm hoping to finish off the year with:

1) Both Botms (The sea, the sea and Pale fire)
2) Blood meridian for my TBR
3) Outlaws of the Marsh for my past annual catch-up
4) Everything left on my randomiser- except our upcoming annual lol- which is Diary of Jane Somers, The Last World, and A World for Julius.
5) Finish Mason and Dixon, which I started and wanted to get done last month

...and I'll see whatever else I get to lol. Starting The Sea, The Sea tonight.

Sorry that life is tough right now. I am amazed at how much you get done while going to school, writing thesis. It's no wonder you might be a bit burned out. And this covid thing is messing with families. I hate that most of all.

Aw that's so kind of you, Kristel, thanks :)

I'm amazed(and grateful) by how much you've still kept things running here with the other mods even though you're going through a really difficult time right now too.

The pandemic is really messing with family holidays this year, but I hope everyone here has at least someone they are safe to spend the end of the year with (and at least as many good books :))

George P. | 728 comments I've read both The Sea, The Sea and Pale Fire in the last few years so won't be joining on them.
I have finished the Quarterly Read, Our Mutual Friend which I enjoyed.
I read by audiobook Nella Larsen's Passing on a little road trip to Las Vegas last week.
I'm working on The Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolaño, The Museum of Unconditional Surrender by Dubravka Ugrešić and The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann now. I will probably finish only the Museum of Unconditional Surrender before the end of the year because of the length of the other two.

My step-father in Florida and my niece in Ohio have both gotten covid infections in the last couple of weeks so you all be careful. They are doing ok.

Amanda, I've read A World for Julius and really liked it.
