Melanie | 1911 comments 2020 is almost at a close. What books are you reading to close out the year? Any 2021 book plans premade already?

Or just share you highlights and low lights from this month and take it one-day-at-a-time.

Melanie | 1911 comments I started off my month with
How to Train Your Dragon (How to Train Your Dragon, #1) by Cressida Cowell
which was the exact right kind of light, fun read I needed to get me through a stressful week.

I also listen to
The Royal Ranger The Missing Prince (Ranger's Apprentice Book 4) by John F. Flanagan
which ends on a big time cliff-hanger. I've been following the series, so I guess I can stand to wait.

Laura Swallow (laurajswallow) | 4 comments I just started Scythe and I'm hoping to finish that series before the year ends.

For next year, I want to read at least 50 books including Lord of the Rings, which I've never read before.

Melanie | 1911 comments @Laura,
Those are all big books. You'll have to check back in with us and let us know how it goes.

DivaDiane SM | 290 comments I have been whittling away at 1Q84 as an audio book since November. At best I manage about 4% per day. Sometimes only 1%! Not because I don’t like it, it’s just huge and my audio book listening time is limited!

Also reading Gideon the Ninth and The Humans for another group.

Melanie | 1911 comments @Diane- 1Q84 is another "big" books that I'm not yet brave enough to pick up. I will be starting The Humans soon too.

DivaDiane SM | 290 comments 1Q84 is wonderful. A diverting and easy read, except for its length. Sometimes I thing it could’ve been a hundred pages shorter with a little less repetition, but the repetition isn’t awful.

Kingfisher

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin The Usual Suspects by Maurice Broaddus Bunnicula (Bunnicula, #1) by Deborah Howe

DivaDiane SM | 290 comments YA read in 2020:
Shadowshaper I listened to this and it was fun.
The Farthest Shore Reread for me, read aloud to my son.

MG read in 2020:
Roller Girl This didn't start great but it did end great.
A Wrinkle in Time This was a reread for me, which I read aloud with my son.
It's Not the End of the World read aloud with my son
The Westing Game read aloud with my son
Christmas Night 1776 This was ok
Space Boy This was a diverting listen while we were driving to Italy.
The White Mountains I loved this when I was a kid, but my son did not engage with the audiobook.
A Stitch in Time read aloud with my son. I loved it.
The Mysterious Visitor read aloud with my son. Another fave from my own childhood.
Diary of a Sixth Grade Ninja audiobook with my son

I see I've skewed massively toward MG this year. And most were read together with my son. He's 11, so not quite ready for YA, but soon, because he's a smart boy, just not emotionally ready.

Melanie | 1911 comments I think that's great you spend so much time reading with your kid. When he turns into a proper teenager, he might not want to read with you anymore, so enjoy your time together now :)

I read with my niece when she visits (not a lot this year because of COVID) and sometimes over Skype.
