Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion

In 2016 we started this challenge because when one of our mods (Karen) joined Goodreads in 2012, she still had books on her "to read" shelf from back then. They just stared at her... mockingly... asking when she was going to either read them or remove them from that shelf...
So in 2016 we started "clean out the closet" to read or delete all the books left on your TBR added in 2012 or earlier.

Over the years we have played with the concept and changed things around a little, but the reading challenge is simple...
>sort your "to read" shelf by date
>pick the books that you are going to read which have been on your list the longest and set yourself a goal. You may decide to read all of your books from the oldest year, or you may just take the oldest 20, or 50, or 5 books on your list. Some people choose specific series books, or ARCs, or just random..... Completely up to you how you set your goal and how many books you read!
>Your goal is tracked on a spreadsheet and players can edit columns C and D. So update your target books and books read as you go and we will post monthly progress to the thread.

This year I am going to put all the books left from 2013 on my list (17) and then aim to read/delete all of them. I tried to reduce them last year but still have these ones left... so if I still don't read them I need to bit the bullet and just delete! :o

Then I'm picking 1 of the oldest on my tbr that I can get on audio from the library and then another 2 from 2014 and 5 from the Discworld series to bring my total to 25.

I'm going to try something different this year. The last two years, I've really tried to stick to a goal I knew I could accomplish through reading alone, to get that 100% status, lol. But I still have 59 books on my 2014 shelf - the year I joined Goodreads - and it's kind of bugging me this year. I'm feeling extra motivated to just go through the list and start checking them off.

So, while I'm sure I can't read nearly all of them, my goal is to read or delete as many of them as possible! I can tell right now that a couple can be deleted. For ones I'm not sure about, I'll give them 50-100 pages to hook me and then DNF and delete if they don't grab me. And I'll probably rely heavily on audiobooks.

Anything I end up reading or deleting from my 2015-2019 shelves will count towards my final total as well, but I won't add them to the spreadsheet until the end of the year - that way I can see my progress towards my 2014 goal.

Cleaning out the TBR closet 2021 challenge
Duration: 1st January 2021 to 31st December 2021

Last year I started with 906 books on my TBR list. I had wanted to get that down to around 700.
This year I start with 812 (I was under 800 but I added quite a few books at the end of last year) and I will try to get it as close to 600 as I can.
I started 2020 with a goal of 30, but very quickly it looked like I was going to exceed that. I upped my goal a few times over the course of the year and ended up with a goal of 80. By the end of 2020, I had read 87 books off my list.
This year I will begin with a goal of 50.

I'm back for another year! I ended up prioritizing the NPR Best Books of 2019 challenge this year, but in 2021 I want to make some progress on my tbr. My Kindle is getting too heavy!

I don't keep much on my GR tbr list, but my Kindle "On Deck" collection has over 500... I want to tackle at least 20 books that have been on my Kindle from 2018 or earlier.
