description

This challenge runs from January 01, 2021 - March 31, 2021.
This challenge consists of 4 levels with 5 tasks for each level.
All tasks must relate to books in a series.
To complete the challenge you would have to do one task from each level (10 books).
A book may only be used once, minimum 150 pages.

Level 1
1. Read a book that is part of the official series of books, but written by a different author
2. Read the final book to complete a series. It doesn't have to be the last book in the series, just the only one you haven't read in the series
3. Read the first book of a different series by an author you already read.
4. Read any 1 book in a series that already has more than 8 books in the series.
5. Give a series a second chance. Read the second book in a series you were not sure of when you read the first book.

Level 2
1. Read a book from two series/ sub-series that interconnects.
2. Read a duology.
3. Read 2 books that are currently the second last books in the series. Based on what has been published by 31 December 2020.
4. Read 1 book from two different series that were started before the new millennium, 2000.
5. Read two books from two different series set on two different continents.

Level 3
1. Read three different books that complete a series. (This means the series must be finished, and no more books are planned by the author).
2. Read three books set in fictional cities (must be part of series, obviously).
3. Read a trilogy
4. Read 3 books, with 3-word titles, that are part of series.
5. Read three books, from the same or different series, that are sequential uneven numbers in the series (e.g. books 1,3,5 or 7,9,11).

Level 4
1. Read 4 books that have author(s) using pseudonyms that are part of a series. All 4 don't have to be the same author, but they all need to use their pseudonym on the particular books you read. They also don't have to be from the same series, but need to be part of a series.
2. Read 4 second books of series
3. Read four books that form part of a series that has been made into a movie or television series (does not have to be four different series, nor do all four books have to part of the same series)
4. Read 4 books whose covers match in some way. Thus they all have very similar blue covers, they all have covers that only has writing on it, the girl on the cover has a sword, etc.
5. Read 4 books from different series where the original publication date of the first book in the series is after 2010. (You can read any book in the series, it doesn't have to be the first one)

I see you are a Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency fan, Wayne. Have you tried the Kubu series by Michael Stanley, also set in Botswana?

I'm going to have to take a look at the Latin American trilogy, it looks interesting.

Yes, I am also reading both the 44 Scotland Street and The Sunday Philosophy Club, and I enjoy the AMS light touch in dealing with deep issues. Thanks for the hint, will definitely check out the Kubu series.

I recently reread Captain Corelli's Mandolin and enjoy it as much, if not more, as the first time about 25 years ago. So looking forward to these three interesting titles.

Btw, it was quite a head-scratcher identifying books for this Challenge - a killer indeed.

Have a great Sunday.

Glad to be giving you a bit of a challenge. Most of us are series addicts, so this is a good way to get some of our plate. At last count, I had about 40 series in progress. The full list is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Hope you have a lovely Sunday with some reading!

Thanks. Have a few chores, but will definitely read a bit. Before I jump in though, I am looking for something by Charlaine Harris to add to the "currently reading" list.

Success! An anthology of short stories, Wolfsbane and Mistletoe, it is christmas themed but just a bit too late for Holiday Challenge.

Never too late for a Christmas read! Charlaine Harris is one of those authors who everybody raves about and I have never gotten around to read. Will have to make a plan, I think.

The books that I am reading currently are an international bunch. Half a Lifelong Romance is set in Shanghai in the 1930's and a plot twist just clobbered me about 60% through. I think there goes the happy-ever-after ending.
The Captain's Daughter is in tsarist Russia in the 1700's. Fairly bleak, set in a fort somewhere on the steppes in winter.
Kintu is set in Uganda and absolutely wonderful. It's the third of these inter-generational family sagas set in Africa that I have read in the past six months and I am starting to become addicted to them.
I've started Wives and Daughters for the published posthumously task in the Mishmash quarterly challenge. A bit daunting to be reading over 500 pages and know it is unfinished.

I'm using the Serial Reader app for Wives and Daughters and The Captain's Daughter. I find it very useful for older books. https://www.serialreader.org/

Quite a spread, just like mine. I read quite a bit of History and Travel, but will read lots of different stuff, and enjoy it. The author who made the biggest impact on me in the last year is Barbara Kingsolver. I think she is brilliant.

I have a sizeable library, but it is rare to find me leaving a second-hand bookstore without a purchase or two. Not quite tsundoku though, because I try my utmost to empty the shelves, but there is just too many of it. I blame it on Mr. Gutenberg (has he been declared a saint? If not, long overdue.)

Thanks for the heads-up wrt the apps. Not a great phone reader, yet.

Well done Carolien. Yep, quite a challenge. I am on course to finish in another week, if things go according to plan.
