We continue our series read with 2 books in Jan. First, Veiled, a short novella. Let's open discussion around the 15th.

When a dead body turns up in the hot tub at a high-end resort on the rugged Oregon Coast, forensic investigator Lacey Campbell and her fiancé, Jack Harper, realize their vacation is over.

Tragically, the dead woman is dressed in a wedding gown, even more disturbing for Lacey since she’s about to become a bride. When the victim turns out to be a popular bartender with a bad-news ex-husband, it looks like a domestic quarrel turned deadly. But could there be something more sinister going on in this tight-knit community? Swept into the investigation, Lacey uncovers a killer with a morbid perspective on marriage.

From master of romantic suspense Kendra Elliot comes a fast-paced tale of obsession and murder.

I'm in!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 603 comments I'll be reading this in the new year. It's a quickie.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1131 comments I'm in for both. I loved Lacey and Jack as a couple and Veiled should be a great novella.

I'm in too! Also for Alone. We'll knock both these off in Jan.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 603 comments I finished this one this morning. For a short story I enjoyed it. Jack isn't so overbearing now that he and Lacey are engaged. Trouble does seem to follow this couple, LOL.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1131 comments I finished "Veiled" also and it just didn't do it for me. The plot and characters were fine, I just felt that it lacked the spark that the previous books had.

Do you think it's because it's a novella, Anita and there isn't enough page time to develop the plot more fully? I guess there really wasn't many viable suspects other than the perpetrator when I think about it.

I finished reading Veiled. Found it to be too short for any in depth development which spoiled things a bit. It seemed a little too ...almost frivolous (not right word, but it escapes me). I wasn't impressed but look forward to moving into the new book.

Susan (cruelshoes) | 573 comments some couples have all the bad luck with horrible things happening to them and Jack and Lacy seem to have their share of bad luck and how many times can some one get kidnapped and almost get killed

I mostly felt this book was "fluff", but I do recognize that it's really about their wedding planning & future together.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 603 comments I find novellas are basically extras for the readers and don't usually contain much development in a series. As Sandra said this one did show Lacey and Jack together planning their wedding and the crime almost felt superfluous in the scheme of things instead of the main event.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1131 comments I don't expect a lot from a novella, due to the short length, but I've read some awesome ones and I know Veiled just lacked . . . something. Lack of the development of many viable suspects was definitely a problem. The writer was a good suspect, but she never tied him in.

I love Robb's novellas in the In Death series! Or at least most of them.

I didn't dislike Veiled - just didn't feel much engagement.
