PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments This is an unusual addition to the Little People BIG DREAMS series for children by Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara. Louise Bourgeois was a troubled, unique artist who created disturbing sculptures.

Nathan McConville (napalm7) | 1 comments Orange City Orange City is set in a dystopian future where the city and "The Man" provide criminals with a chance of redemption, as long as you do as your told! The citizens of Orange City are monitored 24/7 by cameras and sometimes other civilians. Graham is given his chance by becoming the new face of Pow! soda. Along the way discovering they are controlled by more than "The Man" and also his own life is/was not what it seems/seemed.

Another 4 stars but too many characters, I had trouble keeping up between Royalty and Beatrix Potter?

Tender Is the Flesh Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Follow me, cavaler. Let us take pleasure in that atrocity

Is it strange to say that I'm not sure what to think of this book? The best way I can describe it is that it's an engaging narrative about the lengths human-beings can go to justify grotesque behaviour and how quickly society, if pushed, could normalise horrific practices.

The writing was incredibly absorbing combined with relentless gore. I agree with another reviewer in that this is a book that, whilst I enjoyed reading this book I don't think I would necessarily recommend.

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I just finished Ghost Species by James Bradley by James Bradley

It did not blow me away, but it was very nicely written; less of science fiction than speculative fiction, by an Australian author and set in Tassie I think it has a lot of potential for all you readers out there who are not so much into sci-fi but need one for a challenge.

Not strange at all; pretty often I put down a book I have finished and feel like I don't know exactly what to think about it.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Turning Point is a Jeffery Deaver short story that only takes an hour to read but is well worth the time investment. I didn’t expect to be quite so entertained, especially by the insults. 5★s

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Anything by Maggie O'Farrell is a winner for me, and Hamnet was no exception. Daisy Donovan's narration of the audio was particularly moving so I was glad I was listening to this at home where the tears wouldn't embarrass anyone.

And started Nest by Inga Simpson by Inga Simpson
And, as always, am amazed that it is not a better known book! Masterfully beautiful descriptions of the bush, native trees and birds on this occasion wrapped around a kidnapping... So many books that are not half this good have rave reviews... I do not grok.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments I really enjoyed The Crossing, the first of Aussie author B. Michael Radburn's mystery series about a park ranger escaping his grief by taking a posting in Tasmania. It's frying pan into the fire stuff, except it's so bl**dy freezing that the fire might be welcome. Good read!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments The Schoolgirl Strangler is the second historical true crime novel I have read recently, and I'm pleased to report that Katherine Kovacic’s fine examination of these serial murders is a marked improvement on my earlier read, not being bogged down with impenetrable psychiatric analysis as that one was. The Schoolgirl Strangler is a fascinating look at a series of murders that shot fear into Victoria’s parents for five years.
