Dsbs42 was looking for a pre-bedtime comfort read and picked up Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan. "Don't be too put-off by the three-star review – it does exactly what it sets out to do, so if you're looking for a short, amusing, relatable read...you could do worse than Dad is Fat (book title chosen by former child of Gaffigan)."

For me, 3 stars means, it was good but I probably won't read it again. I love rereading books.

Raven Black (blackraven6913) | 198 comments I agree with Emmalita. A three is a good, solid read, but not a reread (though I don't tend to reread, too many new books out there). And yes, it does what it says it will.

However, I'm willing to go as far as saying two star reviews are not bad. That just means it reflects the reviewer more than the book. I know some people who LOVED Book X, but since I know their style is not mine, a five star review still wouldn't get me to read it.

Therefore, they are good at letting you know the reviewers tastes, so you can learn if you can take recommends from them.

There have been a couple of cannonballers over the years whom had opposite taste from me, so a two star review from them would often pique my interest. Its why I try to say why something didn't work for me, because that might be the thing that works for you.

Katie (faintingviolet) | 44 comments I tend to go with the label - a three star book is a good book, did as advertised, but it didn't blow my hair back. Two star books are okay, nothing wrong with them, but they just weren't for me.

hmmmm....if I see someone has rated something Three Stars, then I am inclined to at least give it a peek- there's usually something in there that might be good! If I give something Three Stars, then I probably won't recommend the book but I will check out other things that the author has written. I often find myself giving series-starters Threes; I *hope* they will continue to grow and I know that I will give them at least two more books to prove it.

Obsidian | 156 comments Three stars means I liked it fine and I may even re-read it in the future if there is nothing else grabbing me at the time.
