OUR PROGRESS
all Tasks have been assigned

WE WILL DO IT!
Reporting Progress

Note (among other things) the FAQs in Message 1 gives instructions for using the PLANNING spreadsheet AND for completing the TRACKING spreadsheet.
In SOME of the rows where you have placed an "X", I have typed over that with the word "ASSIGNED". (A deviation...because, I'm a deviate! AND it gives us a visual of "X"s that haven't been assigned yet and your assignments.
Once you have completed your book for an Assigned Task, type over that wording, changing back to "X" and then highlight as instructed.
Let's highlight with Light Pink. (Select to the far right and three down,)

I'm following your lead on the spreadsheet.
I have changed the column titles a bit. Hope I understand your intentions. Let me know, if not.

I just saw that our topic was up, so I thought I might introduce myself, since I don't know many of the people in this group :)
I'm Michelle, 25 years old. I am currently doing my master's degree in clinical psychology for children and adolescents in Belgium, though I'm officially from the Netherlands. I've been in this group for two years I think, but I haven't been that active. I've done some buddy reads which I really enjoy and am now joining this readathon (my first readathon ever). My goal is to get to know new people (you guys!) and to create more time reading for myself. I tend to watch series or stroll the internet at evening time, instead of reading, and I don't know why, because I often enjoy reading so much more. I'm mostly into thrillers, young adults and fantasy books, so it is those that I chose for this challenge.
I've pledged to read two books for this challenge, but if I have enough time, I'll defenitely read more! I have been to the library already and got myself 6 books, so I don't know if you want me to put all of them in the spreadsheet (I'm not going to get to read 6 I think), so we can see which prompts are filled by my books? :);
For now I have put in the two books I would defenitely like to read (the first one I will probably already start tomorrow, so I just need to make sure there's 100 pages left to finish it off.), so I think I can read at least 3 if I do that :)

I noticed your entries on the spreadsheet. I want to thank you for moving your entries to the right, so that they are not in line with the other 2 member's books that have been listed.
I had not anticipated that we needed several repetitive lines for the tasks. With 9 team members, i need to create more room for multiple entries for the same tasks.

I don't think we specifically need to do that if we use one column for every book, because it counts how many books meet the prompt, so we can just see if it counts to 4 if we need 4 :p. I don't fully understand the spreadsheet yet, so I might need some explanation, haha.

I just saw that our topic was up, so I thought I might introduce myself, since I don't know many of the people in this group :)....."
It is good to meet you Michelle.
I live in retirement in Plymouth, Michigan, USA. I usually read two books a day (no television access).
My non-reading interests include genealogy, cemetery photography, Freecycling, logic puzzles, Sudoku, frogs, blue pottery. I am the librarian of a small senior citizens complex.
I come from a family that loves books. Ripped jackets, dog-eared pages, coffee rings and fingerprint pizzas stains are a sacrilege. As a consequence, if you wish to borrow one of my books, you will have to leave your first born as a security deposit!
As a teen, I thought I had more important things to do than read. But my mother had a floor to ceiling, wall to wall bookcase full of New York Times best seller fiction. In the eighties (now a full grown adult) I dug in. Started alphabetically with Douglas Adams, Richard Adams, ended at Gore Vidal, Kurt Vonnegut...you get the picture?
I mostly look for mysteries and historical fiction in the library, but some of my favorite books are not of that genre.
I don’t read mysteries to dwell on the awful things people do to one another, (So serial killers are not my favorite.) I enjoy the cleverness of the detective and wish that I was that clever too. So, in my reading, I tend more toward forensic and the seemingly impossible deductive thinking. But I find that even detective cats and dogs and sheep and dinosaurs and teddy bears and nursery rhyme characters are cleverer than I!
I also like books with a backdrop of something that teaches me as I go along. I don’t generally want my learning delivered in textbook form; I need to be tricked into it.
I think that I have read every thing that is available by Stephen King, and am always seeking, without success, the other author that can engage me as well as he can.

Spreadsheet discussion that is no longer relevant, because our team spreadsheet looks fantastic.

May I delete this post?

Wow, you've already put so much work into the team spreadsheet! Would you please hold off on changing the spreadsheet for a bit until we've chatted? Thanks.
The idea with the planning page..."
I did make a lot of changes!
With 9 members and an enormous number of possibilities, it seemed as though moving to the right with every possible book would be unwieldly.
I have no intention of changing the TRACKING sheet..
Let me re-read your message about how things should work. Maybe I will understand as I review.
I now see the example that had been originally given to us. The "examples" weren't there when i first viewed the sheet. You had beaten me to the sheet and already added your three books. I apologize, I hadn't realized that a set template was required.

Wow, you've already put so much work into the team spreadsheet! Would you please hold off on changing the spreadsheet for a bit until we've chatted? Thanks...."
oshizu wrote: "The idea with the planning page is that a member types in their "currently reading" books. In my case, I have three.
So, presuming that the nine members start with three books each, we would have 27 columns, some displayed off screen? 20 of which will not be readily visible.
oshizu wrote: "When I'm finished with one, I'll highlight the prompt I've actually chosen out of possible fits, then move the entire column to the right so that finished books would be out of the way.
I didn't think that the prompt was chosen until the end, so that things could be swapped around.
oshizu wrote: "The way you've set it up, I'd move everyone's first book with my first book.
I think I had not finished my changes when you viewed what I was working on
oshizu wrote: "In your spreadsheet, how shall we indicate on the Planning page that we've finished a book? Highlight the prompt?
I read the instructions to mean that we would mark BOLD on the final book choices and not the prompts. But highlighting would work as well.

It is good to meet you Michelle..."
It's good to meet you too! Being a librarian seems like a nice way to spend your time, just being around books :) I always calm down in the library. We're very different in reading preferences, since I often do not like historical books and I feel like the books of Stephen King are often too scary for me to read. So I'm interested to see your book choices and how you find them. If you read two a day, there's going to be a lot of them! :)

Yes, you are correct.
I would be glad to see everyone's entire list.
I think we should put those that we REALLY want to read on the spreadsheet so they will be considered a priority.

Could you double check your entries, since I experimented with other spreadsheet formats, I may have lost some of your data.
I apologize if I have.
I'll stop tinkering now!

He IS well known for his horror fiction, and that is not all that he writes.
Have you seen the movies Shawshank Redemption or The Green Mile? He wrote the stories those were based on.

Do the team spreadsheet however you like. I haven't looked at it recently.
It would be nice if you could use one of your reserved posts to explain how you'd like us to fill out our book info. :D
Don't worry about my getting in your face.
I'm gonna step back and enjoy the ride on your leadership boat!

Here are my reading plans for the marathon.
I won't read them all (though I wish I could), but I want to have the flexibility to help with unfilled prompts.
I'm definitely starting with the first three books, though.

Completed Books

I just checked and I own a Kindle edition of the Penumbra book.
But I have another bookshop book that I need to finish and I see that book's on another teammate's list as well.

You wrote:

One person need not complete the whole task.
I'm hoping to read Book 2 of Octavia Butler's 4-book Patternmaster series. Then, for example, if you read any book from any 4-book series, our team would be 50% done with that task.

I haven't seen or read either of those, but if you say they're less scary, I might try some over the summer holidays. (Yes, I know they're a while away, but I can read during the day more often then :) )
Also I checked the spreadsheet and it's fine now :)

Okay! Penumbra is also a possibility on Ziggy's list I saw. I am really excited to read the book of Penumbra, so if I may, I want to read that one definitely. And then I can use it either as one of the things it ticks if I read it on my own or use it as the second person reading the book. All is fine for me :)

I will be reading the below six books for the Read-a-Thon:
The Lost Apothecary
The Final Revival of Opal & Nev
The Girl with the Louding Voice
Bad Feminist
The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek
An Ember in the Ashes
I'll add them to the spreadsheet with the possible categories they will fill.

You are right. oshizu has suggested a different way. (Probably a tested design with this group) I have abandoned my project .
My one complaint about it is that the entire collection of data is not visible on one screen. I have modified the spreadsheet so that each of us can scroll to the left to "our" own entries and still have the column headings,, and scroll up and down with the tasks still visible.

There are 3 of the 4 books I am planning to read
1. The Case of the Sulky Girl
25+ chapters, Erle Stanley Garner wrote over 25 books and wrote for over 25 years
2.The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
3. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
These books have titles over 25 characters
The 4th book I will decide once we figure out what prompts still need to be filled.

Hellooooo Deidre! Happy that you found us.
Thanks for listing your plans.
I've found a slot for the first 3 on the spreadsheet and created a blank column for your unknown 4th.
Looks like you have some entertaining reading in store!

I want to assign this book to Michelle for "Read a book that was read for this challenge by another participant".
Are you okay with reading it for "Read 4 books in a series of 4 (25% of a series)"? Perhaps The Giver as you suggested?

Oh, great list! You are so quick!
Coincidentally, I have books on hand for all of the prompts you listed, except "25th book on TBR list."
I know I signed up to read 8 books, but I recently read 10 books during 7 days of a 9-day readathon, so I'm feeling optimistic that I'll be reading more than 8.
Real life has a habit of intruding, though, so 8 is the modest goal. :D

I have the same thoughts. I believe between you and I, we can cover a lot more blank spots.
Ziggy has listed a pretty extensive list, but hasn't chosen which to read yet. I am hoping one will be for a 4 book series.
Still waiting for El, Nikki and Regina. Their estimated number of books totals 9. Let's see what prompts they pick.

I have made SOME assignments for the books that you have listed in the spreadsheet.
They are NOT final and may move to a different task. Even if they do move, the team is counting on them to be read. If you discover that you can not read one of them, let me or Ziggy know and we will adjust the spreadsheet data.
Now that some assignments have been entered, I think we have a better picture of what is still needed.
I have listed the ♫♫SOLOS and DUETS♫ that are still blank.
Outstanding TRIOS♫ and ♫QUARTETS can be read also. It will take several books to complete the set, though.
(Why do i feel as though I'm assembling a musical extravaganza?)

I can add them.

I love quirky and deviant, Almeta. I am definitely on the ideal team for me! <3

Good eye Michelle. I just noticed that this morning.
The COUNT column should be fixed.

If you are starting a qualifying book before the Readathon, be sure to have 100 pages left to read as the challenge starts.
For a qualifying audiobook, you should have at least 2 hours listening time remaining in order to have it count.
