I'm afraid to watch it. I love those books. I'm not sure how they'd capture that magic in a TV show.

Folks....

I was super weepy over this book last night. Anyone else reading tear-jerkers?"

I'm hoping I get to read this book for the BOM points - I've got it on hold through Overdrive, but it still says an 8 week wait. Sigh.....

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I just done the 3rd day of Equal Rites DQs so now I just have to finish the book.

I also began A Deadly Education and it definitely had "Morris dancers" in it. It was around the 19 minute mark (audiobook). Do you need an exact time stamp or the quote or anything?

I'm going away tomorrow to stay with some friends for a few days so I don't think I will get much reading done.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I can get the exact quote from my ebook copy, so don't worry.
Enjoy seeing friends.

Can I participate in BOM and get us points by reading the books even if I'm not signed up for the DQs??? I've just realized what SandyL's mentioned implies. Omg. :o

Yes, you get 20 points for answering the questions. Anyone who answers the questions and reads the book during the challenge gets the points.

Edited: Sandy is referring to the one month time period in which you have to answer the question.

Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments Finally summer has arrived and sunshine! It has been cold and rainy and I am not a cold weather person at all.
I read 6 books in May and this is more than my average has been lately. Pretty happy with that.
On to South Africa book and looks like it could be a tear-jerker.

message 461: by Joyce (last edited Jun 04, 2021 05:53PM) (new)

Joyce (eternity21) | 478 comments I was wondering can the books used for the Jackanory section be books used in the other tasks? I was looking at the rules and was thinking that they could be used. Not sure though.

Mexican Gothic could be used as a genre if that is the case.

message 462: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4254 comments Jackanory is its own section so we get page number points but separate from tasks and BINGO

message 463: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments I have been having a hard time keeping my attention on my books. I am enjoying what I am reading but after 20-30 pages I just want to switch to something else. Usually I only have 1 or 2 books at a time but I’m working on 4 right now and trying not to let myself add in another. Does anyone else ever do this— but maybe more successfully?

Polls for July BOM (last month): https://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/3...

If you have no idea what to vote for, my reccomendations (as in, I nominated) are Project Hail Mary and Lost in the Never Woods.

I read 3-4 at once. I have different reading moods and often have one more serious and smaller, lighter ones and +/- an audio for walks.

message 466: by Jen (new)

I am going to read Hunted for the fairy tale genre task when I finish my science genre book!

I added the date to the tracking spreadsheet, but your book is missing the read date on Goodreads. Could you add the date of 6/5 when you get a chance?

Thank you!

Lexi | 4254 comments For people who want to get in line at the library for July BOMs:
Adult - The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
YA - The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

The YA is a reread for me, and I adore it. Both Judith and Jen read the adult one recently and liked it.

message 470: by Snowtulip (last edited Jun 06, 2021 03:33PM) (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Bummer, (for this challenge, not the book) I've been at 25% for The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and I started it before this challenge :(

So it won't count (it's been good so far, just other books have gotten in the way).

But I'll definately reread The House in the Cerulean Sea

message 471: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and The House in the Cerulean Sea were both recommended by Team Carrot. So, we can use those reads for the recommendation tasks.

I read Addie LaRue recently but will try to get The House in the Cerulean Sea.

message 472: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Unfortunately, both books have over a 4 month waiting period on Overdrive from my library. :-(

message 473: by Joyce (last edited Jun 06, 2021 04:40PM) (new)

Joyce (eternity21) | 478 comments I read The House in the Cerulean Sea end of April so that one is out but I can read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and have been wanting to read it. This will give me the push to read it. Only 4 weeks waiting time.

message 474: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Jen,

If you remember enough to answer questions you can still participate in the BOM for points since you read the book during this challenge. I’m in the same boat as you with this book.

And I read Cerulean Sea a couple months ago so I’m out completely for that one.

At least I can do the Discworld book.

I read 3 to 4 at a time as well. Usually an audio, and ebook, and physical book. Bumps up to 4 if one is a BOM because I try to keep to the reading schedule.

Also, I hope you enjoy Hunted. I read it a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Though I didn't like her book Sherwood nearly as much.

message 476: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I got back from visiting my friends late last night. I am very tired as I struggled to sleep properly, but I had a nice time. I hope everyone's weekends were good.

@Jen I usually have several books on the go at once. Usually somewhere between 4-8. I usually have a fiction physical book and a non-fiction (history mainly) physical book and then an ebook and one or two audiobooks (usually a shorter one and a longer one). I also read manga so I generally have a couple of those on the go too.
I juggle a lot so it takes me longer to finish things, but it also means that no matter what mood I'm in something I am reading will appeal to me. I've got more on the go right now because I'm actually participating BOMs which I haven't done before.

I didn't get almost any reading done over the weekend, but I plan to finish a few books this week including The Midnight Library, Equal Rites and A Deadly Education.

Did we need someone to read Mort for the extra credit?

Seconding the YA! I read it recently and it was a lovely read.

I'll have to add the Adult BOM to my stack then. It's been on my TBR list. Ahaha.

There's no limit to the number of people that can read and answer the BOM questions. So if you want to read and participate in the BOM, great!

Just don't feel like you have to do so.

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments There seems to be a few books on the Cold Covers list that are on my TBR so I could cover that if no one else is planning to. But I probably won't get around to it until later in the month as I really need to finish some of my other books first.

*Edit: The Woman in White is on the list and I was planning to read that soon anyway so I will read that for it.

Snowtulip | 4679 comments I just finished The Jock, they are college students that spend time at the college, the football field at the college and their apartment near the college....would that count as set at university?

message 490: by Kirby (new)

Kirby | 5 comments Does anyone have any recommendations for books that give off old hollywood/new york glamor? I LOVED the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and just finished City of Girls. I love the vibes those books give off and would love to find more fictional reads like them.

I hope everyone has had a good start to the week. I just started a 8-5 job, so reading has been difficult, but I’m trying to find spots to get it done!

Or The Time Paradox book I am going to read will work for that as the cover is yellow and black.

Joyce, that would be great. You can write the questions if your book arrives in time and I will if it does not. It really helps with the randomizer if we have at least two people for each BOM.
