2025 Reading Challenge discussion

This thread is to discuss Divergent by Veronica Roth, the first book of the Divergent series.

Pages: 487 pages

Length: 1 Month (May)

Participants: Ilse, Bobbi, Rachael, Frezita .

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

I’m excited for this one, it has been on my TBR list for a while now :)

This will be a reread for me.

Same here! I have been wanting to read it for a while. Unfortunately, I order Insurgent instead of the first book so now I'm waiting for it to arrive.

I have even seen the movies till after I read the books. And hopefully, this series gets me to read the Hunger Games series. Not sure why I keep associating the series with one another.

I have read both of these series, and think that Hunger Games is better overall--at least it's more consistent in the writing level and in quality of stories, etc. Series (view spoiler)[I found the third book in this series not well written--the POVs were too much alike--and the story itself ruined the prior two books for me. I thought the premise very lame. I also thought her self-sacrifice a complete waste in this case. (hide spoiler)]

I completely agree with you.

I started my reread a couple of days ago but forgot to post.
Chapter 13: (view spoiler)[Straight after reading this chapter, I read Free Four: Tobias Tells the Divergent Knife-Throwing Scene which is a short story available for free online. It retells that chapter from Four's point of view. It's very interesting to get both sides at the same time (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 15: (view spoiler)[I couldn't remember the twist about Tris' mom, Natalie. Is more revealed throughout the trilogy? I hope so. If not I'd quite like a prequel about her (hide spoiler)]
