We're halfway through the summer! If you haven't started reading, now is the time. This counts towards your Summer Reading challenge ;)
For those of you who've started, what do you think of it so far? Have you read it before or seen any of the movie adaptations? What do you find interesting about Buck's journey from ranch life in Santa Clara Valley, California to the harsh environment of Alaska?

"This is a story about a dog, the men are just along for the ride." - Cinema Blend
Buck's story is one of a domesticated dog returning to his untamed roots, suffering a lot along the way. SPOILER ALERT: this story has more violence than one expects.
The latest movie adaptation, starring Harrison Ford as John Thornton, Buck's last tie to humanity, is brought to us by Disney which prompts a less violent experience for Buck but more action. Check out this article highlighting the difference between the short novel and this movie, and let us know if you've seen any other adaptations!
You don't have to love dogs to appreciate this short novel, but it doesn't hurt. Why do you think Jack London chose to tell this story specifically from Buck's point of view?

Manske Library's Book to Screen series is back with a novel to match our Summer Reading theme.
Join Library staff for Jack London's masterpiece, The Call of the Wild; the classic tale of a dog's adventure and survival in the frozen Alaskan Klondike.
Read along with Library staff here and remember to keep an eye out on Facebook for a Zoom meeting at the end of July.
