Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments So, PBS is moving to a pay-model.

Are there any other websites out there of a similar nature (everyone pays to ship their books, but gets books for low/no-cost), that're not pay-per-month/year, and preferably free?

ie: what are my other options?

HeavyReader | 450 comments I've had great success on BookMooch. I've given away 282 books and mooched 192 books. There is no charge to join BookMooch and no charge to receive books. Senders pay postage costs of sending books.

http://bookmooch.com/

It's a book gift economy. People list the books they want to give away, other people mooch the books they want.

Go here: http://bookmooch.com/about/points
to learn about the BookMooch point system.

This is from that page: you have to send out at least 1 book for every 2 you receive. If you don't keep this ratio up, you won't be able to mooch any books, even if you have the points, until you improve your ratio. Sending internationally counts as 3 books.

I've never had a problem keeping up my ratio. I've never received a book that wasn't absolutely readable.

I am quite pleased with BookMooch.

HeavyReader | 450 comments Title Trader http://www.titletrader.com/
seems to be free, and you can also swap CDs, DVDs, and VHS tapes.

There used to be one, Bookswap. They closed it. You can read all about it here:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

The reason it closed:

"The issue really is that swap never grew large enough to warrant the time that our staff had to put into it. It was used by less than 1% of the total users of the site, yet it occupied a far larger percentage of our customer service and software developer staff time."

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Hey, HeavyReader, that site requires subscription. Can you list off the sites it names? I don't need to read the whole article, just get some names to investigate.
