Ceelee | 212 comments Greetings everyone! I am late to the party as always! Life is still crazy but I am managing to read more. Four books is better than zero!

The first book I read was non fiction/True Crime. Zodiac Revisited, Volume 1: The Facts of the Case by Michael F Cole.

The Zodiac Revisited, Volume 1 The Facts of the Case by Michael F. Cole

I heard a lot about this case from a pen friend who lived in San Francisco when I was a teen so I knew something about it but never read any books about it. I saw the movie from 2007 but it wasn't until Book Sirens and the author gave me the chance to read and review this book. Well written study of the murders. There are four volumes so i subscribed to Kindle Unlimited so i could read all of them.

More nonfiction for a SRC Spring Challenge: Forever Young: My Friendship with John F Kennedy Jr by William Sylvester Noonan.

Forever Young My Friendship with John F. Kennedy, Jr. by William Sylvester Noonan

I really enjoyed this book. It was entertaining and heartwarming and Oh! Jackie O! I loved reading about her as a mom and she was just as much a mom to Billy as she was to John Jr and Caroline. I love biographies of all kinds of people because you can learn a lot about the person and the life and events around them.

The last two books are in the Why Did I Read It??? category.

First The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy, #1) by Katherine Arden

This was one of the four group reads for the SRC Spring Challenge. I already had it on my Kindle app so i decide to finally read it. Not the worst book I ever read but not a favorite. It was very slow for me even though the writing was pretty good. I liked the main character Vasilisa
but it took too long to get to the part where she gains her power from the jewel. Lots of characters to get mixed up and such stereotyping. I admit i don't know much about Russian history or fairy tales so for me it was impossible to know what was authentic or from the author's imagination.
I apologize to anyone who loved it but it was not my cup of spicy Russian tea.

And finally...the biggest culprit....She Wore Only White by Dorthe Binkert

She Wore Only White by Dörthe Binkert

I admit the biggest reason I had it was I liked the cover. I thought it would be a nice little novel of romance and mystery on an ocean voyage from Antwerp to New York.. At first it was pretty interesting to meet the characters on the ship but it got so boring and the story didn't really go anywhere. The main character wore a white evening gown to board the ship as a stowaway but becuase she was rich the captain didn't treat her like a stowaway and could go out in public and everyone was fascinated by her and all the men were in love with her. The book was "based on a true story" a newspaper article the author read about a woman who did the same thing. That didn't even save it for me.

What a way to end the month! June reads are much better!

I am waiting for my copy of the Laura Lippman book to arrive then I will be joining that discussion! Can't wait!

At least two of your four were good ones. I am looking forward to the group read of Dream Girl as well.
It must have added nuance to read The Zodiac Revisited, Volume 1: The Facts of the Case being true crime of a known event.
