Corinne Daigle | 5 comments Taking place in the 1930s, The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck embarks on the story of the Joad family. Due to the Oklahoma Dust Bowl, the Joads are forced to move cross country from Oklahoma to the promised land of California after their farm being evoked by the bank. But there is a catch; Tom Joad Jr. is currently on parole after accidentally killing a man and is not technically allowed to leave the state.
I found the book dry but well written in the sense of the word choices and descriptions. The book had a grim, depressing tone throughout the story, and had no good characters. I did not like the book, but if you are into historical fiction and or the 1930s, I would recommend it.
